Adobe Data Shows Cyber Monday Largest Online Sales Day in History With $3.39 Billion

Adobe released its 2016 online shopping data for Cyber Monday and the holiday weekend overall. Cyber Monday is on track to hit a new record with $3.39 billion spent online, a 10.2 percent increase year-over-year (YoY). This will mark the largest online sales day in history, surpassing Black Friday ($3.34 billion) by a narrow margin. Cyber Monday is expected to generate slightly less mobile revenue than Black Friday at $1.19 billion, a 48 percent YoY increase. The holiday shopping season so far (November 1-28) is expected to drive a total of $39.9 billion in online revenue, a 7.4 percent increase YoY, with 27 out of 28 days this holiday season generating over $1 billion. Proposed Paper Bag Fee to Cost Consumers Millions

The plastic bag ban outlined today by Boston City Councilor Matt O’Malley contains a fee on paper bags that will cost several millions of dollars to Boston consumers, further strapping working families already struggling to get by in one of America’s most expensive cities. O’Malley, a district councilor from Roslindale, chaired the Plastic Bag Ordinance Task Force and today unveiled legislation banning thin, single-use plastic bags from being used by grocery stores and other retailers. O’Malley maintained plastic bags are harmful to the environment and clog up landfills for hundreds of years. Oil Retreats as OPEC Split Imperils Deal With Deadline Looming

Oil retreated below $47 in New York after OPEC officials failed Monday to work out a compromise on a deal to cut production and boost crude prices. Futures lost as much as 2.3 percent. West Texas Intermediate for January delivery lost as much as $1.06 to $46.02 a barrel on New York Mercantile Exchange and was at $46.09 at 12:15 p.m. in London. Prices Monday rose $1.02 to $47.08 a barrel. Brent for January settlement, which expires Wednesday, lost as much as $1.07, or 2.2 percent, to $47.17 a barrel on the London-based ICE Futures Europe exchange. The contract advanced 2.1 percent to $48.24 a barrel Monday. The global benchmark traded at a $1.23 premium to WTI for the same month.
