CJK Group, Inc. announced that it has closed on an agreement to acquire the assets of the Dexter, Michigan–based book printer, Thomson-Shore, Inc. Thomson-Shore filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on March 25, 2019 with the intent to sell its assets quickly under the guidance of the bankruptcy court as opposed to restructuring or liquidating the company. CJK Group CEO, Chris Kurtzman, stepped forward and offered debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing that allowed the company to continue operating throughout the bankruptcy process and ultimately positioned CJK Group as the preferred bidder for Thomson-Shore’s assets. One of the largest regional affiliate print competitions in North America, the Graphics Excellence Awards hosted by the Great Lakes Graphics Association, recently took place with Arandell taking home three “Best of Category” awards.
The three categories where Arandell swept the competition were in Environmentally Sound Materials, Web Press Printing on Coated Paper and Web Press Printing on Uncoated Paper, for Arandell clients Patagonia, Saks Fifth Avenue and SmartWool, respectively.
Winners of the GEA competition were selected based on superb craftsmanship in print quality, color and overall design in catalog production. Winning an award of this magnitude demonstrates Arandell has produced truly excellent work and continues to be the premier catalog printer of choice for brands around the globe. Arandell’s keen eye to fine details ensures the delivery of consistent quality for clients time and time again.
In addition to the three “Best of Category” awards, Arandell’s winning pieces were also automatically submitted into two additional competitions. The first is the upcoming GLGA Gala on May 22nd which will select a “Best of State” award for qualifying pieces, of which the three titles listed above do qualify. The 2nd competition, the Premier Print Awards hosted by the Printing Industries of America, is an international printing industry competition held in June. More information on these award shows will be available soon.
These three “Best of Category” GEA awards now add to Arandell’s long list of print quality awards received by the organization in recent years, including being a 3-year consecutive Gold Ink award winner, a two-time Sappi Printer of the Year winner and a multi-year winner of both the GEA and PPA print quality competitions.
