Kruger Specialty Papers Joins the SPC

Kruger Specialty Papers is proud to announce that it has joined the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC), a membership-based collaborative that believes in the power of industry to make packaging more sustainable.

Kruger Specialty Papers shares the SPC’s vision of a world where all packaging is manufactured responsibly using processes that minimize environmental impacts.

Kruger’s newest division, created in fall 2017, manufactures a line of specialty products for niche applications such as food packaging and labeling, among others.

“The SPC is a natural fit for Kruger Specialty Papers because our product lines are currently the most sustainable in the Canadian marketplace. By using cellulose filaments (CF), Kruger Specialty Papers is able to manufacture products from thermo-mechanical pulp, unlike all our competitors that use alternative fibers,” explained Rich Reutti, Director of Sales, Kruger Specialty Papers. “Our products manufactured with cellulose filaments deliver better performance at lower basis weights, which is a clear benefit for our customers because they will lower packaging costs and reduce their environmental footprint at the same time.”

International Paper Wins 2017 AF&PA Sustainability Award for Sustainable Forest Management

“International Paper took the initiative to increase and expand its certified fiber supply by supporting small private landowners – benefitting its customers, its suppliers and its businesses,” said AF&PA President and CEO Donna Harman. International Paper created a cost-effective means for small private landowners to become Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified following customer demand for certified products. Through Certified Forest Management LLC, its own FSC forest management group, International Paper has directly enrolled and actively maintained FSC forest management certification for 210 private landowners in ten states since 2012, significantly increasing certified forestlands and their certified fiber supply in the process. FSC Now Only Forest Certification Recommended for Federal Procurement

In September 2015, the US Environmental Protection Agency issued “Recommendations of Specifications, Standards and Ecolabels” to guide federal procurement. For lumber and wood, FSC is now the only EPA recommended standard. The Forest Stewardship Council US applauded this decision and sent a letter of thanks to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy and Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz.
