Silvernail Elected International Paper Chief Executive Officer
Silvernail has two decades of experience leading global companies in the manufacturing and technology sectors. He joins IP from KKR & Co., Inc., a global investment firm, where he served as an executive advisor. Silvernail served as the Chairman and CEO of Madison Industries, one of the world's largest privately held companies. Prior to that, Silvernail served as Chairman and CEO of IDEX Corporation from 2011 to 2020. Employee engagement reached best-in-class performance and total shareholder return grew by more than 500% during his tenure at IDEX. Silvernail previously held executive positions at Rexnord Industries, Newell Rubbermaid and Danaher Corporation. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Stryker Corporation. How important is sustainability to shoppers? (chainstoreage.com)
Sustainability remains a top priority for consumers, with 78% of respondents reporting that sustainability concerns are very or somewhat important to them when choosing to buy a product or shop at a retailer, according to results of the third annual Blue Yonder Consumer Sustainability Survey. Seven-in-10 respondents indicated that they have shopped at a retailer promoting their products as sustainable at least once or more in the past six months, which is slightly down from the 74% who reported doing so in the 2023 and 2022 editions of the survey. Close to half (47%) of respondents reported that their interest in shopping sustainably has greatly or slightly increased in the last year, while 40% of respondents said they would pay up to an additional 5% and 25% said they would pay an additional 10% or more.

Smurfit Kappa achieves four of its Better Planet sustainability targets
According to its 17th Sustainable Development Report published today, Smurfit Kappa has achieved its targets on: *Waste: achieving a 35.8% reduction in waste sent to landfill, ahead of its 2025 target of 30% (24% in 2022) *Forestry: achieving 95.5% of packaging sold with Chain of Custody certification, ahead of its 2025 target of 95% (94.3% in 2022) *Communities: €25.6 million donated to support social, environmental and community initiatives, ahead of its 2025 target of €24 million (€18.4 million in 2022) *Diversity: 25.1% of management positions were held by women at the end of 2023, ahead of its 2024 target of 25% (23.5% in 2022).
