Transcontinental Inc. completes the transformational acquisition of Coveris Americas

Transcontinental Inc. (TSX: TCL.A TCL.B) (“TC Transcontinental” or the “Corporation”) is pleased to announce that it has completed the previously announced acquisition (the “Acquisition”) of the business of Coveris Americas, a business previously held by Coveris Holdings S.A. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, Coveris Americas manufactures a variety of flexible plastic and paper products, including rollstock, bags and pouches, coextruded films, shrink films, coated substrates and labels. Coveris Americas operates 21 well invested production facilities in the United States, Canada, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and China. With this Acquisition, TC Transcontinental welcomes 3,100 employees, the majority of whom are located in North America and Latin America.

Kruger Packaging Announces Important Transformation Project At Its Place Turcot Mill

Kruger Packaging announced investments of over $30 million to modernize its Place Turcot Containerboard Mill in Montréal. With this important transformation to be completed in 2025, the Place Turcot facility will be the first in North America to manufacture 100% recycled saturating kraft board, a product that is used to make high-pressure laminates for furniture, countertops and decorative paneling. In support of this innovative project, the government of Canada is contributing $10 million through the Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) program, while the Québec government is providing a combined sum of more than $3 million through the Innovation Bois Program, as well as the ÉcoPerformance program, which stems from the 2030 Plan for a Green Economy. In addition to eco-friendly saturating kraft board, Place Turcot will make other specialty products from 100% recycled fibres, including gypsum board paper, customized board for residential construction, folding box board for FDA-compliant food packaging, and white top linerboard.

American Forest & Paper Association Releases September 2020 Boxboard Monthly Report

Total Boxboard production in September decreased six percent compared to September 2019. It was down three percent when compared to the same nine months of 2019. The boxboard operating rate was 88.3 percent, down 3.6 points from September 2019 and down 0.8 points year-to-date. Solid Bleached Boxboard production in September decreased 11 percent compared to September 2019. It was down six percent when compared to the same nine months of 2019. Recycled Boxboard production in September decreased one percent compared to September 2019. It was down two percent when compared to the same nine months of 2019. Unbleached Kraft & Gypsum production in September decreased four percent compared to September 2019. It was down one percent when compared to the same nine months of 2019.
