U.S. Packaging net sales of $683.7 million for the second quarter of 2018 represented an increase of 3.4 percent compared to the same period of 2017. The increase in net sales was driven primarily by higher selling prices and mix partially offset by lower unit volumes of approximately one percent. Lower unit volumes were driven by the Company’s planned shutdown of infant care business at its Shelbyville, Tennessee facility. U.S. Packaging operating profit increased to $89.9 million in the second quarter of 2018, or 13.1 percent of net sales, compared to $80.1 million, or 12.1 percent of net sales, in 2017. FSC certification by the Forest Stewardship Council(TM) is an internationally recognized mark of well-managed and sustainable forest operations. The aim is to increase the use of certified wood in the label production processes and to promote awareness of the forest certification and related responsibility issues.
