Advocating for the role of forests in nature-based solutions

London Climate Action Week (LCAW) is Europe’s premier city‑wide climate festival, founded in 2019 by E3G and the Mayor of London. Each June, over 45,000 attendees converge on the capital to accelerate decarbonization, resilience and climate innovation – and inspire cities worldwide to replicate its success.

Forests and their stewards are indispensable partners in nature‑based solutions. At LCAW 2025, FSC will advocate for sustainable forest management as a cornerstone of climate action, forging alliances with NGOs, governments and financial institutions to build on our solutions, such as ecosystem services, Verified Impact, and climate finance.

New Technology Helps Us to Keep on Truckin’

Georgia-Pacific and KBX Logistics have used smart software to efficiently plan routes, minimizing the miles spent driving with an empty trailer, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions from the business. The insights generated by using data capacity and processing power has allowed Georgia-Pacific and KBX to cut 4 million unnecessary non-revenue miles for its 2,300 contracted drivers – saving those 615,000 gallons of diesel. Another initiative to eliminate engine idling at Georgia-Pacific facilities also saved an extra 418,000 gallons of fuel between 2018 and 2019. That has prevented an additional more than 4,200 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Metsä Board’s side streams developed into bedding for animal farms

Soilfood, a Nordic circular economy company, studies the utilisation of fibrous side streams from Metsä Board's mills and has identified a new use as raw material in animal bedding. Increasing the added value of secondary products made from side streams is a circular economy where raw materials are kept in use as long as possible. Metsä Board’s mills manufacture high-quality fresh fibre paperboards focusing on lightweight and high-quality folding boxboards, food service boards and white kraftliners. The mills' fibrous fractions from the production of these products, can now be used as raw materials for animal bedding.
