Irving Woodlands LLC Releases its Annual Outcome Based Forestry Update for Maine

With over 60 years of operations in Maine and 1.255 million acres of forest, Irving Woodlands LLC provides a sustainable wood supply to over 20 separate businesses in the Pine Tree State.

Outcome Based Forestry defines the key environmental, economic, and social indicators that are the foundation of the company’s sustainable forest management in the state.

2015 Highlights include:
Less road building (40% reduction)
Operate on less of the landbase – less fragmentation of the forest
No increase in the percentage of clear cutting
Zero 3rd party certification non-conformances in independent annual (2015) audits of 145 forest sustainability indicators (FSC, SFI & ISO 14001)
3,400,000 trees planted
Worked with 30 commercial outfitters offering outdoor experiences in our woodlands
228 voluntary conservation sites

One of the broad-based objectives of the company’s voluntary and award winning Unique Areas conservation program is the preservation of rare and uncommon species or significant landscape features.  A great example is an outstanding Eastern White Cedar in the Wallagrass region of Northern Maine.

“The Wallagrass tree is the largest and possibly one of the oldest cedar trees that we have found on our land base at this time,” said JDI Planning Forester, Nick Pelletier. “We expect this tree to be between four to five hundred years old.”

Irving Woodlands LLC has a total of 228 conservation sites in Maine in addition to 94,000 acres of watercourse buffers, and 122,000 acres of deer wintering areas.
