To address misleading environmental claims claims, Two Sides North America and FPAC have worked together with several Canadian organizations to change their marketing messages related to print and paper. This partnership addresses misleading claims such as “go green – go paperless” and “save trees” which are regularly used by financial institutions, utility providers and governmental organizations to encourage customers to switch from paper to less costly electronic bills and statements. One of the successes includes convincing the Canadian Revenue Agency to change it’s messaging on tax assessments.
Two Sides NA also works closely with the American Forest & Paper Association in the U.S. to dispel myths and promote the unique sustainable features of paper products.
To date, Two Sides has successfully worked with 125 leading North American organizations (over 440 worldwide) to remove or change inaccurate environmental claims.

FSC is terminating the Trademark License Agreement (TLA) of the eight certificate holders belonging to the Vinda group through a mutually agreed termination agreement. Hence, the Vinda group can no longer be associated with FSC because it was recently acquired by the Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) group. FSC disassociated from the RGE group, which includes APRIL, in August 2013. According to the mutual termination agreement: *The TLAs of all the Vinda certificate holders will be terminated effective 30 September 2024. Therefore, after the termination becomes effective, these companies can no longer produce products with FSC claims, and they cannot claim that they are FSC-certified. *The liquidation period of all FSC-labelled products produced up to and including 30 September 2024 may be sold with an FSC label until 31 December 2024. This means that Vinda can no longer sell products with FSC claims after this date. Vinda’s customers who bought products produced by Vinda as FSC-certified before the end of the liquidation period will be able to claim that they are FSC-certified without any time restrictions.
UPM Specialty Papers is proud to announce that its packaging papers have been certified as recyclable according to both European CEPI and U.S. WMU testing methods. All UPM barrier papers, barrier base papers and flexible packaging papers have successfully passed the new CEPI recyclability test. These papers are technically recyclable in a recycling mill with conventional process according to CEPI-Scorecard version 2.0 (January 2025).

On Friday, November 3 (November 4 in the print edition), the Wall Street Journal published an article titled Citi to Cardholders: Go Paperless or Else about Citigroup’s decision to cut off all online and app communications with their customers who refuse to go paperless. Two Sides North America sent the following letter to the editors of the WSJ the same day. Citigroup’s Paperless Mistake: Recent survey data validates the backlash shown on the WSJ website in response to Citigroup’s decision to cut off all electronic communications to consumers who refuse to go paperless. Commissioned by Two Sides North America and conducted by international research firm Toluna, the survey showed that 81% of Americans, including more than half of 18- to 24-year-olds, believe they should have the right to choose between paper and electronic communications from their banks and other service providers, and 73% believe they should not be charged extra for receiving a paper bill or statement. 46% of consumers said they would consider switching to an alternate provider if their current one forced them to go paperless, up from 41% in 2021.
