Public Consultation: Regional forest certification system for the Balkans

Stakeholders from around the world are invited to give feedback on the regional forest certification system for the Balkans. Deadline for comments is 2 October. Give your feedback now!

Our national members for Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Slovenia developed a harmonized framework for their national forest management standards to create this regional system for the Western Balkans.

By developing a regional system, it enables our members to maximise their impact and reach, share resources and knowledge, and reduce the costs in developing and running a forest certification system.

The system is now undergoing the PEFC assessment process, carried out by an independent PEFC Registered Assessor. It must pass this process and be approved by the PEFC General Assembly before it can achieve endorsement.

An important aspect of the assessment process is the public consultation. Over the sixty-day consultation, stakeholders from around the world can give their comments and provide feedback on any aspect of the system. The Registered Assessor will use the information received from this consultation in their assessment of the system.

India has become the latest country to achieve the PEFC endorsement of its national forest certification system. “PEFC endorsement is a landmark achievement for India, as we have long felt the need for such a country specific and internationally benchmarked forest certification system,” said Vijai Sharma, Chairman of The Network for Certification and Conservation of Forests (NCCF), our national member for India. “Our newly endorsed national system will allow Indian forest managers to further strengthen their sustainable forest management practices, in line with global standards and multilateral requirements.” NCCF joined the PEFC alliance in 2015 and submitted the national system to PEFC for endorsement in 2017. The system was developed through a multi-stakeholder group including forestry professionals, representatives from government, forest corporations, conservation organisations and industry bodies. AF&PA Wins Telly Award for Improving Paper Recycling Video

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) won a 36th Annual Bronze Telly Award for its Improving Paper Recycling video. The video promotes increased quantity and quality of paper and paper-based packaging recovered for recycling. The annual Telly Awards program honors excellence in broadcast and online video content. The award-winning video, which was recognized specifically for its green and eco-friendly messaging, is available at http://www.paperrecycles.org/. “AF&PA is honored to receive a Bronze Telly for our Improving Paper Recycling video, which is part of our ongoing effort to increase paper recycling nationwide,” said AF&PA President and CEO Donna Harman.
