Crews estimate they will continue to battle last night’s large commercial fire at an Industrial Way paper mill throughout Wednesday in Longview.
Wood chip piles are fueling the blaze at Nippon Dynawave Packaging at 1701 Industrial Way near the entrance on the Longview side of the Lewis and Clark Bridge and Weyerhaeuser’s gate 4 near Oregon and Industrial ways.
A large plume of smoke could still be seen Wednesday morning.

Stora Enso has entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of the Finnish sawmill company Junnikkala Oy. This acquisition aims to secure a cost-efficient wood supply to Stora Enso’s packaging board site in Oulu, Finland, and to support Stora Enso’s wood products business with new production assets. The total enterprise value (EV) for the transaction is up to EUR 137 million, a significant part of it being contingent upon achieving specific production milestones. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions including regulatory approvals, and is expected to close in the first half of 2025. Junnikkala Oy is a Finnish producer of sawn timber and processed wood products for domestic and export markets. It operates three sawmills in Finland including its new state-of-the-art sawmill, less than 10 kilometres from the Stora Enso Oulu site.
Net sales were $1.8 billion in the second quarter of 2022, up from $1.7 billion in the prior year quarter. Unfavorable foreign currency translation impacted sales by $95 million and $11 million of lower sales was due to divestitures. Higher average selling prices contributed $208 million to sales. Shipments (in tons, excluding divestitures) improved approximately one percent while sales declined $1 million due to the net effect of higher sales volume and a slightly unfavorable change in mix. Other sales improved $17 million driven by higher machine part sales. Segment operating profit was $257 million in the second quarter of 2022 compared to $232 million in the prior year quarter.
