Amcor recognized for corporate sustainability in S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2024

Amcor (NYSE: AMCR, ASX: AMC), a global leader in developing and producing responsible packaging solutions, announced its inclusion in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2024. This recognition places Amcor among the top 8% of S&P-assessed companies in 2023.

The S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook is an annual publication that honors companies that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and performance in environmental, social and governance (ESG) measures in each industry. This year, S&P Global recognized 759 companies in the Yearbook, out of the 9,400 it initially assessed using its Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) Score methodology.

In the containers and packaging sector, Amcor has made tangible progress in areas crucial to environmental sustainability. Amcor’s commitment to developing all its packaging solutions to be recyclable, compostable, or reusable by 2025 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 places it among the leaders of the packaging industry.

Huhtamaki to consolidate its flexible packaging footprint in Europe with closure of the manufacturing site in Prague, Czech Republic

Huhtamaki has made the decision to consolidate the production footprint of its Flexible Packaging segment in Europe and will be closing its Flexible Packaging production facility in Prague, Czech Republic. All production and supporting activities at the facility will be scaled down during the second half of the year, with the closure of the operations completed by March 31, 2024. Production will gradually be transferred to Huhtamaki’s other manufacturing sites. The decision affects all 198 employees in the site. Huhtamaki will support its employees during this period, including providing information about vacancies in other Huhtamaki units in the Czech Republic and across Europe. Huhtamaki currently has two manufacturing units in Czech Republic. The closure of the Prague site does not affect the Fiber packaging operations in Okrisky which today employs 274 people.

Amcor first flexible packaging company to offer certified-circular plastics in Australia and New Zealand

Amcor has placed its first commercial order of certified-circular polymers leveraging ExxonMobil’s ExxtendTM technology for advanced recycling for use in packaging for the Australian and New Zealand market. The order will make Amcor the first flexible packaging company to offer certified-circular plastics in this market, which supports partial displacement of fossil-based feedstock and meets growing consumer demand for plastic circularity. Using its ExxtendTM technology, ExxonMobil offers certified-circular polymers with the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification that are identical to polymers made from conventional fossil feedstock. The certified-circular polymers can be used in existing applications, that otherwise require the use of virgin resins.
