Barron’s Recognizes WestRock as One of 100 Most Sustainable U.S. Companies

WestRock, a leading provider of sustainable paper and packaging solutions, has been included in Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable U.S. Companies list, recognizing the company’s continued commitment to sustainability and driving a more circular economy.

To build its sixth annual rankings, Barron’s partnered with Calvert Research and Management, a leader in ESG investing, to develop the list by ranking the 1,000 largest publicly traded U.S. companies by market value across 230 ESG performance indicators from seven ratings companies including ISS, MSCI and Sustainalytics. Company performance was also measured across five key constituencies: shareholders, employees, customers, community and the planet. WestRock jumped into the top 50 ranked companies this year, coming in at #43.

“As the demand for sustainable, fiber-based packaging continues to grow, it’s the dedication of our teammates and partnership with our customers that enable WestRock to innovate and move packaging toward a more circular future,” said Alpa Sutaria, Senior Vice President of Strategy and Sustainability at WestRock. “I’m proud of our continuing commitment to sustainability and it’s rewarding to have these company-wide efforts recognized by Barron’s as we imagine and deliver on the promise of a sustainable future.”

Inclusion in the list recognizes WestRock’s focus on innovation and collaboration to advance sustainable solutions like fiber-based packaging. The drive to a more circular economy was a key theme of this year’s list. Over the last year, WestRock has announced updated sustainability targets including validation of its science-based target by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). Barron’s also specifically recognized WestRock’s ambitious target to have 100% of its products be recyclable, compostable, or reusable by 2025.
