Expera Specialty Solutions Launches Health-Gard Medical Papers Brand At PackExpo 2017

Expera Specialty Solutions is proud to be exhibiting at PackExpo 2017, highlighting a diverse portfolio of specialty paper products that span a variety of end-use applications.  From highly technical applications, to offering multiple sustainable packaging solutions, Expera creates custom specialty paper products for each of their customers.

Expera is launching its new brand of medical papers known as Health-Gard™.  Health-Gard™ medical papers provide sterilizable packaging solutions that meet market requirements for cytotoxicity and microbial barrier. These coating base papers, available in multiple basis weights, are ideal for form-fill-seal and pouch applications where a fiber-free peel is critical. Other Health-Gard™ applications include papers for medical lidding stock and lamination, and medical garments and drapes.

In addition, at PackExpo 2017, Expera will be featuring sustainable product offerings along with products from multiple brands including food packaging and processing papers and industrial and technical papers.

Felix Schoeller Group plans to invest more than $100 million in expanding its capacity in North America by 2025

The Felix Schoeller Group is systematically implementing its growth program for North America. Starting in 2023, capacities at the company's sites in the USA and Canada will be significantly expanded in three steps. In the first step, a new silicone coater will be installed at the Pulaski, NY site in mid-2023. This will enable the Felix Schoeller Group to supply the North American market with domestically produced siliconized papers and films. In doing so, the company is relying not only on solvent-free silicone technology, but adding solvent-based silicone technology to their portfolio – while utilizing particularly energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technological solutions. The second step is the expansion of the paper machine capacity in Drummondville, Canada, from currently 32,000 tons to over 40,000 tons per year. This increase is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2023. And finally, the specialty paper manufacturer plans to invest in the construction of a second paper machine for the North American market. The plan is to add up to 50,000 tons of capacity for the decor and release liner markets.

The self-assessment results, have exceeded internal expectations and positions the operation as a leader in sustainable practices, evidenced by a low environmental footprint. Unfortunately, current Covid-19 restrictions have prevented an on-site verification process from taking place, however members of the SAC are invited to connect via the Higg portal to view the results and engage with us further in this regard. The Higg FEM is part of the Higg Index suite of tools that was developed by the SAC to allow the apparel industry to measure their sustainability performance. Sappi joined the SAC in February 2019 and remains a committed member of the organisation, being a participant in many of the SAC events and engaging in ongoing discussions on how to enhance the tools on offer.
