Inteplast Group Acquires Brown Paper Goods

Inteplast Group acquired Brown Paper Goods, which is now rebranded as Brown Paper Products (BPP). The paper manufacturer is located in Waukegan, IL, and Coppell, TX, with four locations comprising plants and warehouses. Brown Paper Products will operate under Inteplast Group’s IBS Division.

In 2023, leading sales for Brown Paper Products include pinch bottom bags for various prepared hot and cold foods; sandwich, foil, and sub wraps; self-opening sacks; tin tie bags, butcher and freezer rolls, and more.

Group President Dr. John Young welcomed BPP Owner Allen Mons via an internal announcement on Wednesday, April 3.

Brown’s century-old reputation for service and quality is well-known to the marketplace, and we intend to continue the same legacy under Allen’s leadership. Sonoco ThermoSafe Celebrates First Pegasus ULD® Uplift on AirBridgeCargo Airlines, Releases Case Study

Sonoco ThermoSafe and AirBridgeCargo Airlines have successfully conducted a test shipment with ThermoSafe’s new Pegasus ULD®, the world’s first passive bulk temperature controlled container for pharmaceutical use that is an approved unit load device. The complexity and duration of the journey made this initial shipment an ideal case study. The entire shipping process involved multiple segments of ground and air transportation, starting in London and including stops in Amsterdam, Moscow and Frankfurt, extending beyond 130 hours. The Pegasus ULD contains a fully integrated, FAA-approved telemetry system, providing real-time, cloud-based data on both payload and ambient temperature and key environmental factors, precisely synchronized with GPS location, which confirmed that the internal temperature held between 2°C and 8°C throughout the entire journey.

Sustainability, Consumer Demand Drive Paper Packaging Innovation

When it comes to packaging innovation, the industry is seeing something of a revival in paper and paper-based packaging, thanks to growing consumer demand for plastic alternatives, increased urbanization and an uptick in extended producer responsibility (EPR) legislation related to packaging. The great news is that paper and paper-based packaging, such as the recycled containerboard that will be produced at our Kingsport Mill starting early next year, is made from sustainable wood fiber and is easily recyclable. In fact, the paper recycling rate hit 68 percent in 2021, with paper and paper-based packaging make up the majority of packaging that is recycled each year. In 2021 91.4 percent of cardboard boxes were recycled, up from 88.8 percent in 2020. Today’s interest in plastic alternatives is spurring a new wave of packaging innovation, in part through a series of design challenges. In 2021, Domtar was named a winner in the Beyond the Bag challenge for its strong yet stretchable cellulose fiber-based bag.
