Lacerta Group LLC Launches Hot N’ Sealed: Tamper-Resistant Packaging

SCA is Europe’s largest private forest owner; and in addition to producing wood, the company’s 2.7 million hectares of land offer considerable wind power production capacity. This provides the company with excellent opportunities to produce renewable electricity with land-based wind power. More than 20 per cent of Sweden’s installed wind power is currently on SCA land in northern Sweden. By investing in its own wind power capacity, SCA is striving to become fully self-sufficient in electricity. In order to achieve a high degree of self-sufficiency at the lowest possible risk, the company has actively chosen not to enter into so-called Power Purchase Agreements (PPA). “We want to be able to produce renewable electricity and have a high degree of self-sufficiency to meet our own needs. We want to do this at low risk and have therefore waived PPA, for example regarding production at Skogberget,” says Mikael Källgren, President Renewable Energy at SCA.

Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has been awarded the coveted Fastmarkets PPI Award in the Product Innovation category for its Advantage StretchWrap for pallet wrapping. Advantage StretchWrap is a recyclable kraft paper that is made from responsibly sourced materials. Mondi developed it to stretch and resist punctures, making it ideal for replacing the plastic stretch film that has traditionally been used for pallet wrapping and transportation. Advantage StretchWrap has 62% lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions when compared to virgin plastic stretch film, and 49% lower GHG emissions when compared to plastic film made with 50% recycled content, according to a peer-reviewed independent life cycle assessment. The Product Innovation Award is presented to companies that demonstrate how a newly developed product solves an existing need or problem. Mondi’s Advantage StretchWrap which is 100% kraft paper, delivers excellent protection for palletised goods due to high strength, puncture resistance and tension absorption.

Second Quarter 2021 Highlights (as compared to second quarter 2020): • Revenue increased 40.7% to $376.7 million primarily due to organic growth in certain film, woven, and tape products, including continued strength in products with significant e-commerce end-market exposure such as water-activated tape and dispensing machines. • Gross margin increased to 23.7% from 21.3% primarily due to a favourable product volume/mix and an increase in the spread between selling prices and combined raw material and freight costs. • Net earnings attributable to the Company shareholders decreased $0.1 million to $14.3 million primarily due to (i) an increase in finance costs mainly due to the 2018 Senior Unsecured Notes Redemption Charges(2) and the non-recurrence of a gain in the second quarter of 2020 resulting from a fair value adjustment to the Company's contingent consideration related to the Nortech Acquisition(3) and (ii) an increase in selling, general and administrative expenses mainly due to increases in both variable and share-based compensation. The unfavourable impacts were largely offset by an increase in gross profit. • Free cash flows(1) decreased by $28.8 million to $6.4 million primarily due to the decrease in cash flows from operating activities and an increase in capital expenditures as compared to minimal capital expenditures in 2020 as a precautionary measure given market uncertainty caused by COVID-19.
