Lecta announces a price increase on all its Specialty paper grades of 10% effective for deliveries from 1 April 2021 for all European and Overseas markets.
The increase is necessary due to the sustained increase in prices of pulp and chemicals along with the sharp increase of freight costs. This follows Lecta’s previous announcement made on Thermal paper grades.

Public Utility District No. 1 of Pend Oreille County General Manager Colin Willenbrock issued the following statement regarding the indefinite idling of Ponderay Newsprint Company: “Ponderay Newsprint has long been an outstanding employer and community partner in the Pend Oreille valley. While recent news of the mill being indefinitely idled has long been anticipated, it still hits us hard to know this chapter in our community’s story may be coming to a close. We will be creating a page on our website for customers – including PNC employees who live in Pend Oreille County – to learn about energy assistance programs, financial resources, and other helpful information as we make this transition together.
Sappi Europe is very happy to report that its Alfeld site PM 3 is operational again as of the 20th of July, significantly ahead of the planned restart date. As previously reported the largest area of reconstruction focused on the machine hall with limited damage to the machine. The repair work was carried out by an excellent team of internal and external workers and our thanks go out to them for their efficiency and most importantly for their safe and pragmatic approach. Our teams at our Carmignano mill are also to be thanked for offering a back up solution which was quickly put in place while our repairs were conducted.
President and CEO Ilkka Hämälä: "Like last year, the first quarter of 2025 was marked by low demand and a weak financial result. Comparable result improved from the first quarter of 2024, largely because of the impact of political strikes in the comparison period. The market outlook for business areas is consistent with previous reports. Wood supply is progressing as planned at a slightly increasing price level, while demand in the mechanical forest industry is not showing signs of recovery in the construction industry. Demand for Kerto® LVL has remained at a good level, and sawn timber prices have increased during the first quarter. Market development of the pulp business is affected by the uncertainties concerning China’s economy, and the increased capacity of eucalyptus pulp. However, the price indexes for both the Chinese and European markets increased slightly in the first quarter.
