Mativ Announces Two Executive Appointments

Mativ Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: MATV), a global leader in specialty materials, today announced two appointments to its executive leadership team. Mark W. Johnson will succeed Ricardo Nuñez as chief legal officer, general counsel and secretary for the ~$3 billion specialty materials company. Johnson will assume the leadership of the company’s legal team on September 1, 2023, from Nuñez, who will be departing the company the same day. Additionally, Rajeev Kapur has been named Mativ’s new chief information officer, effective immediately. Both Kapur and Johnson will report directly to Mativ chief executive officer Julie Schertell.

Questions remain on exact details of Appleton Coated's sale to Industrial Assets Corp. after a marathon six-hours-plus hearing Monday in Outagamie County court. Questions also remain on exactly what its 600-plus employees can expect – or hope for – in the long run. It appears the mill has dodged the bullet of an immediate shutdown and liquidation, but might only operate in a limited capacity for 45 days with a staff of 195, about a third of its workers. Still, that's a victory some are celebrating. “We get a second chance,” said Tom Nelson, Outagamie County executive. Nelson had initially objected to the mill's sale to the liquidator and petitioned for more time for a different buyer to come forward in a joint statement with Combined Locks village president John Neumeier. UPM continues to aim for business-specific collective bargaining with Paperworkers’ Union

UPM will continue its efforts to initiate business-specific collective bargaining with the Paperworkers’ Union. Since spring, UPM has sought to enter into business-specific collective bargaining to negotiate flexible ways of organising work, working hours and salaries, as well as competence development within businesses with Paperworkers’ Union and employee representatives by business. However, the Paperworkers’ Union has not welcomed business-specific negotiations but has required a single company-level collective labour agreement. If Paperworkers’ Union does not accept UPM's businesses as contractual partner, the businesses need to prepare the working conditions after the turn of the year without collective labour agreement to ensure business continuity and payroll. UPM would then act according to the labour law, UPM practices and personal employment contracts. "We do not wish it would come to that, but it is a better alternative than forcing our completely different businesses into one mould," says Riitta Savonlahti, Executive Vice President, Human Resources, UPM.
