Metsä Group to launch a pre-study for a Kuura textile fibre mill

Mondi has decided to postpone its €135 million investment in a new 90,000 tonne per annum machine glazed speciality kraft paper machine at its Steti mill in the Czech Republic. Commenting on the decision, Peter Oswald, Mondi CEO, said, “We have decided to postpone the machine glazed speciality kraft paper machine investment after a careful review of market conditions. While the proposed new machine remains an exciting investment opportunity, offering the lowest cost production of its sort in Europe, recently announced industry capacity expansions are expected to result in a market imbalance over the period in which the new machine was planned to come on line. There is no change to our €335 million investment in modernising the mill including rebuilding the fibre lines, de-bottlenecking the existing packaging paper machines and a new recovery boiler, which is progressing as planned.”

*Operating profit for January–March 2022 was SEK 1 883 million (January–March 2021: 849). Operating profit includes net SEK +266 million related to the damaged turbine at Workington, which is being treated as an item affecting comparability. Excluding the item affecting comparability, operating profit increased by SEK 768 million to SEK 1 617 million because of higher selling prices for paper and wood products. *Compared with the fourth quarter, operating profit excluding the item affecting comparability increased by SEK 432 million, mainly due to price increases for paper and increased deliveries of wood products. Profit for the fourth quarter included just over SEK +200 million from the sale of a British forest property. *Profit after tax for January–March amounted to SEK 1 483 million (675), which corresponds to earnings per share of SEK 9.2 (4.2).

The Gregor Calendar Award competition has a history spanning more than 70 years and is organized by Graphic Club Stuttgart e.V. and the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing Construction, with the Association of Printers and Media of the State of Baden-Württemberg acting as a project partner. Perhaps more importantly, however, the competition has long been known as an important catalyst for the creative industry. It should come as no surprise then that around 600 calendars from Germany, Europe, Israel, and Japan were submitted for this year’s competition. Or that two of the winners used Koehler paper. “The United Nations declared 2021 the ‘International Year for the Elimination of Child Labor,’ and the extraordinary ‘International Year for the Elimination of Child Labor’ calendar tackles this topic with powerful color compositions, interesting graphics, and beautiful illustrations while undergirding everything with facts on the problem. With a stellar design and a splendid printed presentation, it truly raises awareness of the issue while leaving a lasting impression.” That was the jury’s explanation for the award presented for the calendar. The project was the result of a collaboration between Koehler and Quedlinburg Druck GmbH, the Druckerei Erdenberger print shop, and the Landsiedel|Müller|Flagmeyer creative agency, and used Koehler recycled paper. More specifically, it was printed on creative print, diamond, 210 gsm – premium recycled paper that combines a natural paper look and feel, elegant aesthetics, and superlative properties for further processing.
