Paper Excellence Once Again Amongst Corporate Knights Best 50 Corporate Citizens

Paper Excellence today announced it has once again been voted one of Canada’s 2022 Best 50 corporate citizens by Corporate Knights. This is the fifteenth time that the company has achieved the Best 50 Award with Corporate Knights. Paper Excellence operates six pulp and paper facilities in British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

The Best 50 award is judged using key performance indicators that relate to the organization’s raw resource use, emissions profile, social performance, safety performance, and percentage of revenue from clean sources.

“Receiving this award again from Corporate Knights is a tremendous honour, and really speaks to the work Paper Excellence employees do to keep our operations sustainable and environmentally friendly,” said Graham Kissack, VP of EHS & Corporate Communications for Paper Excellence Canada.

85% of Paper Excellence’s total energy use was renewable in 2021, and the company has continued to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions—now down by 66% since 1990. Paper Excellence’s products are certified to numerous independent sustainable forestry standards including the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).

Revenue: For the third quarter ended 30 September 2022 Lecta had revenue of €514.6 million versus €342.3 million in the third quarter ended 30 September 2021, an increase of €172.3 million or +50%. EBITDA increased by €25.9 million, from €8.9 million in 3Q2021 to €34.7 million in 3Q2022. This increase was essentially due to higher sales of paper in volume and higher sales prices, partly offset by higher production cost and higher labor and fixed costs. This increase was the result of higher sales of paper in volume, and higher sales prices, partly offset by lower margin on variable costs, and higher fixed costs. EBITDA in September 2022 YTD includes the €38.6 m€ compensation received as a consequence of the anticipated termination and renegotiation of gas purchase agreements in Spain with the current supplier.

Institutional Shareholder Services Recommends Approval of Tembec Acquisition Plan

Tembec Inc. (TSX: TMB) (“Tembec”) announced today that Institutional Shareholder Services (“ISS”) has recommended that shareholders of Tembec vote FOR the proposed plan of arrangement (the “Arrangement”) involving the acquisition by Rayonier Advanced Materials Inc. (“Rayonier AM”) of all of the outstanding shares of Tembec (the “Tembec Shares”). In connection with this recommendation, ISS noted that: "The proposed premium offer consideration provides shareholders with flexibility to participate in the growth opportunities associated with the combined business of increased size, scale and liquidity and/or to receive the consideration in the form of cash that provides immediate liquidity (subject to proration limits).

Europa-Park Uses Blue Koehler Blue4est Receipt Paper

Germany’s biggest amusement park, Europa‐Park, as begun using the innovative Blue4est® Thermal Paper of Koehler Paper. It’s also marketed under the name “Ökobon” in Germany. The blue receipt paper is durable, sustainable, recyclable and guaranteed to be free of chemically reactive components. Although fun and variety are the main focus at Europa‐Park, the family‐run enterprise that employs just under 4,450 people attaches enormous importance to sustainability as well. Using the blue Koehler receipt paper is one of the ways in which Europa‐Park is taking its customers’ interest in increased sustainability seriously. In most cases, traditional receipt paper cannot be disposed of as wastepaper, but is sorted into residual waste instead. This is not the case with the blue Thermal Paper from Koehler that Europa‐Park has been using at its 600 cash registers since August of this year.
