Pocket Folders Fast Adds Two J Press 720S’s

Pocket Folders Fast, an Omaha, NE-based print service provider, has invested in two J Press 720S presses from FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Graphic Systems Division.

Pocket Folders Fast is a division of a broader group of companies, Wright Printing and Barnhart Press. Being a commercial printer allows this group of companies to provide services to a range of clients, including the niche of pocket folders and short-run digital packaging.

“Wright Printing is the umbrella company, started in 1927 by my grandfather,” said Mark Wright, owner, Pocket Folders Fast. “We recently entered into a partnership with Barnhart Press, and have started our presentation folder company, Pocket Folders Fast, and will soon begin our short-run folding carton division.”

Meeting the needs of their clients was a driving force in their investment of not one, but two Fujifilm J Press 720S’s.

“The J Press 720S was purely a customer-driven investment,” says Mardra Sikora, CEO, Pocket Folders Fast. “We listen to what the customers need: speed, short-runs, and high quality.”

The J Press 720S allows PSPs to compete for more of their customers’ branding business by dramatically lowering operational costs and reducing turnaround times – all while boosting offset-quality color consistency.

Starting this December, Pocket Folders Fast is launching a new division specifically for short-run folding cartons.

“It will allow us to produce directly from the website, short-run folding carton jobs and produce on one or both of the J presses,” said Wright.

Johnson & Quin Improves Direct Mail with Color Inkjet (piworld.com)

As a high-volume direct mail producer, Johnson & Quin, which was founded in 1876 (making it the oldest company among this group of innovators), made a profound switch to high-speed inkjet printing in 2019. That change — to three Screen color inkjet systems — reports VP and Principal Andrew Henkel, was precipitated by the fact the company’s clients had accepted color digital output and were happy with the results. “It felt like a leap of faith,” says Bob Arkema, the company’s executive VP, “but it seemed like an inevitability. We could take advantage of being early inkjet adopters, or wait until we were forced to [invest]. It felt riskier not to do it.” To keep up with its three high-speed inkjet lines, Johnson & Quin has also been investing heavily, primarily in inserting systems. “Johnson & Quin, is using continuous-feed inkjet mainly for mid-level-priced, good clients, such as cell phone providers, etc.,” points out Marco Boer, VP of IT Strategies. “They are using software to optimize postal discounts and delivery response to the most efficient levels possible, often pre-sorting at the print level to get the highest postage discounts.” The company’s 100% color inkjet approach makes them stand out in the direct mail space.

New Training Intake Starts at Heidelberg: With a Focus on Digitization

The training programs at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) started on Sept. 1, 2017 – 99 young men and women began their training/cooperative education degrees at one of the company’s four sites in Germany. In line with the “Heidelberg goes Digital” strategic orientation, the industry leader is also increasingly focusing its training on the issue of the digital transformation. For example, the company is providing mechatronics engineers with targeted training in using the View2Connect virtual collaboration and communication platform, which facilitates completely digital assembly planning among other features. Digital workstations for trainees in various corporate departments are planned for the future.
