Sonoco has awarded a gold-level Sonoco Sustainability Star Award to Interbake Foods of Front Royal, Va., a subsidiary of Weston Foods of Canada, for achieving zero waste to landfill status. Sonoco Recycling worked with Interbake on a new recycling program designed to maximize rebate, reduce costs and streamline recycling collection. Solid waste recycling was optimized through methods that made collection and processing more efficient, then supplemented with a waste-to-energy program that ultimately resulted in a landfill-free operation. “Interbake really worked smart as well as hard to achieve landfill-free status,” said Mike Pope, general manager and president, Sonoco Recycling. “They took a close look at their operations and found ways to increase efficiencies as well as rebates. Their program provides a great example how recycling isn’t just the right thing to do – it can be the best business decision as well.” Click Read More below for additional information.
Pregis®, a leading global manufacturer of protective packaging, announces the expansion of its Inspyre™ product line with the new Inspyre™ Mailer, amplifying its contributions to help fight water insecurities in communities around the world. Inspyre™ packaging is a brand member of 1% for the Planet, with one percent of the product line’s sales funding Uzima, a charity that makes and distributes water filters that provide clean drinking water to people in need.
The Inspyre mailer offers an efficient, lightweight, and sustainable way to ship non-fragile items and soft goods such as apparel, linens, in direct-to-consumer e-commerce applications. Made with a minimum of 30 percent recycled content, the new Inspyre poly mailer offers customers a unique packaging solution that contributes to sustainability goals and positive change.
The mailer, available in fanfold and roll stock, runs through Pregis Sharp automated bagging systems, which can increase throughput by four times that of manual packing applications, helping fulfillment centers maximize efficiency and minimize labor constraints.
The Inspyre mailer is available in a stock print or customers can opt for custom designs to further connect brands to the Inspyre program. All Inspyre mailers have a stock footer with messaging to consumers communicating the value of this cause marketing initiative with a 1% for the Planet logo, How2Recycle® label, consumer-friendly recyclability instructions, and a QR code to learn more about the corporate social responsibility program.
Since launching the Inspyre brand in 2018, Pregis has helped bring clean water to more than 170,000 people in communities around the world through its donations to Uzima. By packaging with Inspyre™ Mailers, brands will help fund a vital charity while enhancing the customer experience and building brand loyalty. As an added value, Pregis provides customers a marketing collateral toolkit to help promote their participation and commitment to social and environmental change.
“We are thrilled to expand the Inspyre product portfolio and offer brand owners another way to join Pregis in making a positive impact in the world. Through our support of Uzima and brand membership with 1% for the Planet, we can do this on a larger scale,” said Daché Davidson, chief marketing officer, Pregis. “The Inspyre mailer clearly communicates the environmental attributes of recycled materials, store drop-off recyclability, and informs consumers that the brand is socially responsible. This message helps brand owners build awareness and loyalty through a meaningful consumer experience.”
