Sappi North America Releases 2022 Sustainability Report

Sappi North America, Inc., a leading producer and supplier of diversified paper, packaging products and pulp, today released its 2022 Sustainability Report, highlighting its commitment to science-based targets in creating sustainable products and business practices. The company also secured the EcoVadis Platinum sustainability rating for the third year in a row, keeping Sappi at the top 1% of companies rated for sustainability.

In 2022, the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) continued to play an integral role in shaping Sappi’s business practices. The UNSDGs not only provide a global benchmark for sustainability, but also help guide Sappi’s approach to new sustainable product development; achieve record-breaking employee safety; elevate diversity in senior management; collaborate with partners on forward-trending projects; and more.

Catalyst Paper’s project would support 62 new jobs at Rumford mill

British Columbia-based Catalyst Paper Corp. projects that a $56 million investment in a tissue-making machine at its Rumford mill would support 62 full-time jobs. The Bangor Daily News reported that Catalyst has applied for a $25 million loan through the Finance Authority of Maine's Major Business Expansion and for $12.7 million in state tax credits or taxpayer cash through the state's New Markets Capital Investment program, to help finance the machine. Paper Excellence Announces Corporate Knights Best 50 Win for Catalyst

Paper Excellence Canada today announced that Catalyst Paper Corporation has been voted amongst Canada’s Best 50 corporate citizens by Corporate Knights. This is the thirteenth time that Catalyst Paper, which operates pulp and paper facilities in Crofton, Port Alberni, and Powell River, British Columbia, has achieved the Best 50 Award with Corporate Knights. The Best 50 Award is judged using 21 key performance indicators that relate to the organization’s raw resource use, emissions profile, innovation, women in key positions, safety performance, and percentage of revenue from clean sources.
