Sappi starts consultation process on possible closure of the Stockstadt mill (euwid-paper.com)

For the first quarter ended 31 March 2021 Lecta had revenue of €270.8 million versus €316.6 million in the first quarter ended 31 March 2020, a decrease of €45.8 million or -15%. This decrease was essentially attributable to COVID-19 pandemic: • Lower sales of CWF, Specialties and Purchased Products of €46.9 million or -16%, from €299.3 million in 1Q2020 to €252.4 million in 1Q2021, resulting from lower sales volumes of 35,100 metric tonnes or -12%, with 264,900 metric tonnes in 1Q2021 vs 300,000 metric tonnes in 1Q2020, and a decrease in average net sales price of 45€/t or -4.5%, with 953€/t in 1Q2021 vs 998€/t in 1Q2020; and • Higher sales of energy of €1.1 million or +6.5%, from €17.3 million in 1Q2020 to €18.4 million in 1Q2021, resulting from lower sales volumes of 19,400 MWh or -6%, with 290,300 MWh in 1Q2021 vs 309,700 MWh in 1Q2020, and an increase in average net sales price of 8€/MWh or +14%, with 63€/MWh in 1Q2021 vs 56€/ MWh in 1Q2020. EBITDA decreased by €14.7 million, or -61%, from €24.2 million in 1Q2020 to €9.5 million in 1Q2021. This decrease was essentially due to lower sales of paper in volume. It was also due to lower sales prices, lower margin on unit variable costs, and nearly stable fixed costs.

The new broke handling will be part of the production line PM9 producing high-quality wet strength paper, such as label paper in the future. ANDRITZ will deliver high-consistency (HC) pulping, high-density (HD) cleaning and deflaking for processing the special type of broke. Specific trials on pulping and deflaking of wet-strength paper were conducted at the ANDRITZ stock preparation pilot plant in Graz, Austria in advance. The trials were carried out with comparable raw material from Sappi and confirmed the pulp properties and operating characteristics required by Sappi for the future. Q3/2020 compared with Q3/2019 • Net sales decreased by 8.0% to EUR 654.5 million (711.3), mainly due an adverse currency effect and lower average selling prices • Comparable EBITDA decreased to EUR 78.9 million (83.6), representing 12.1% (11.7) of net sales, impacted by scheduled maintenance shutdowns • Operating result of EUR 32.9 million (34.3) • Net result EUR 15.5 million (12.0). Q1-Q3/2020 compared with Q1-Q3/2019 • Net sales decreased by 9.9% to EUR 1,994.1 million (2,214.1), mainly due to lower average selling prices and volumes as well as an adverse currency effect • Comparable EBITDA increased to EUR 244.7 million (242.4), representing 12.3% (10.9) of net sales, driven by lower variable costs, which more than offset lower selling prices and sales volumes • Operating result of EUR 132.5 million (87.2), including a capital gain of EUR 32.0 million from the sale of the fine art paper business • Net result EUR 71.2 million (30.9)
