Sappi Europe announces the appointment of Flavio Froehli as Vice President, Marketing & Sales with immediate effect for the entire Sappi Europe portfolio reporting to Marco Eikelenboom, Chief Executive Officer, Sappi Europe. Flavio holds an MBA from University of Minnesota and Vienna University of Economics & Business. He is an experienced marketing & sales executive with an extensive background in the Paper, Packaging & Pulp industry. Flavio joined Sappi as Sales Director, Graphics with the acquisition of M-real Graphics in 2008. Since joining Sappi, he was involved in several change initiatives. In his latest capacity as Director, Business Strategy & Development, appointed in 2018, he was also in charge of leading a cross-functional, cross-business team of collaborative experts accelerating Sappi’s transition into growth markets by identifying, evaluating, and selecting products that are today being manufactured on originally Graphics-dedicated machines.

Georgia-Pacific announced significant investments, which total more than $500 million, at its Green Bay, Wisconsin, Broadway mill. The investments will greatly enhance the company's retail consumer tissue and towel business. Investments to the Green Bay mill include building a new paper machine using through-air-dried (TAD) technology, as well as adding associated converting equipment and infrastructure. Engineering and related work is beginning immediately, with startup of the new machine scheduled for the first half of 2024. Approximately 150 jobs will be created to operate the new papermaking complex, in addition to the mill's 850 current employees. The project will have as many as 500 construction and contract-related workers onsite at the mill, fluctuating with project timeline.

Sappi announces the closure of Paper Machine 2 at its Stockstadt Mill in Germany as well as Paper Machine 9 and the energy complex at its Westbrook Mill in the USA. Following an exhaustive consultation process an agreement was reached with mill employee representatives to permanently close PM2, which has a Coated Woodfree paper production capacity of 240 000 tons per annum. Stockstadt will now focus on its strong and growing uncoated woodfree offering. Approximately 170 employees will leave the company with production expected to cease on 30 September 2020. After a period of review, Sappi North America has decided to permanently shut PM9 and the majority of the energy complex at its Westbrook Mill in the State of Maine. Approximately 75 employees will be impacted. The impacted assets are expected to close by end of calendar year 2020.
