The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBSCD) ranks Mondi as a ‘Top Performer’ for the second consecutive year

Mondi’s Sustainable Development report 2019 is named in the ‘Top Performer’ category, honouring the top ten overall reports, from an annual review of the sustainable development reporting of leading global companies by WBCSD.

Of note, Mondi’s reporting on its contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is identified as best-in-class. This recognition acknowledges how closely Mondi’s overall corporate strategy is aligned with the SDGs. The Group is further praised for the experience the Sustainable Development report provides for both specialist and generalist audiences.

WBCSD looked at 158 companies to analyse their sustainability reporting according to principles such as accessibility, stakeholder engagement and evidence of activities.

Luis Rochartre, Director of the Forest Solutions Group at WBCSD, said: “Mondi has been a leading member of WBCSD’s Forest Solutions Group (FSG) for over ten years and is currently co-chairing the group. This leadership is demonstrated through Mondi’s continued presence among the top performers of WBCSD’s annual Reporting matters review process. Mondi has a strong foundation in the principles of sustainability reporting and successfully balances technical content with engaging user experience in its Sustainable Development report 2019.”

An integral part of Mondi’s success is its integration of sustainability into its strategy. The Group identified the areas of sustainability most relevant to its business operations and mapped the relevant SDGs and targets against these. In 2019, Mondi again reported on the SDGs where the company has the potential to amplify its positive impact at scale and mitigate against any negative impacts – crucial to making a lasting difference and contribute to a better world.

Mondi has identified the action areas that are important to drive progress as well as enhanced disclosure and accountability, essential elements of sustainability reporting.

Hearst and Manulife Investment Management today announced the completion of a sale to Hearst of approximately 20,000 acres of sustainably managed forests in Northern California. The forests, which are centered around McCloud, California, have a rich history of industrial forest management dating back to the initial settlement of the town of McCloud in 1897. Resolute Wins Sustainability Initiative of the Year for Climate Mitigation Efforts

Resolute’s success in reducing our carbon emissions and our ongoing efforts to mitigate climate change have earned the company a 2019 Sustainability Award for best Sustainability Initiative of the Year (project) from the Business Intelligence Group . The organization’s Sustainability Awards annually honor people, teams and organizations who have made sustainability an integral part of their business practice or overall mission. This marks the third consecutive year Resolute has been recognized by the Sustainability Awards for our sustainability leadership, vision and strategic initiatives. Smart decision support for harvesting is good for the environment and cuts costs

Using the new system for forwarding optimization, SCA’s site planners can develop smart proposals that help to transport the timber out of the forest in the most efficient manner possible. It is good for the environment, as it helps to avoid damage to the terrain, and also saves money. “The decision support system offers suggestions for the main haulage route in the harvesting area that will be used to transport most of the timber. It shows how the forwarder can reach the wood pile location by using the most efficient route and with the least impact on the terrain,” explains Tomas Johansson at the Technology and Operational Development staff function.
