Cheryl Kahanec has keenly watched the development and maturation of Benny Landa's Nanographic printing technology since 2011 — dating back to her digital printing executive leadership roles at Sandy Alexander, followed by EarthColor. Now, as CEO of the Quantum Group, Kahanec was convinced the availability of the seven-color, 41" Landa S10P digital perfecting press could be a "game-changer" for the 30-year-old commercial and direct mail printing operation that she's led the past five years. As such, in November 2022 Morton Grove, Illinois-based Quantum Group became the first printer in the Chicago area to install a Landa S10P digital offset press. It was demonstrated running four different live jobs during an open house event held March 14 that was hosted by Landa Digital Printing at Quantum for prospective Landa printer customers, both locally and from across the country.

Lane Press, a leading magazine printing company based in Vermont, announced that it is increasing its finishing throughput with the installation of a new Osako saddle stitch binding system. Installation of the Osako Tener Alpha Saddle Stitcher is currently underway, and the unit is expected to be fully operational by mid-April. The state-of-the-art binder is rated to produce 12,500 books per hour and includes automation capabilities that reduce setup and make-ready times. With these combined attributes, Lane Press expects the Osako to substantially increase its bindery production capacity. This will be Lane’s fourth high-speed saddle stitch binder, complimenting two perfect binding lines.

Quad/Graphics announces a new technology platform for testing direct marketing that lifts response rates, increasing reliability and shortening time to market at a fraction of the cost of traditional mail testing. The testing platform, called Accelerated Insights, is a virtual platform that can test up to 20 content variables in one pass. It uses a sophisticated persona matrix that combines demographics with emotional characteristics to predict what factors motivate someone to act on an offer.
