Two Pulitzer Prizes For Penguin Random House

Two authors from Penguin Random House, Jayne Anne Phillips and Cristina Rivera Garza, were awarded a Pulitzer Prize this year. They won in the “Fiction” and “Memoir or Autobiography” categories. Since the Pulitzer Prize was introduced in 1917, a total of 137 Penguin Random House authors have received the famous award.

It is the continuation of a fine tradition that goes back more than 100 years. When this year’s Pulitzer Prize winners were announced at Columbia University in New York on Monday, Penguin Random House authors were once again among the honorees: Jayne Anne Phillips and Cristina Rivera Garza were honored in the “Fiction” and “Memoir or Autobiography” categories. The Pulitzer Prize is one of the most prestigious literary prizes in the United States, and is given in the categories of “Fiction,” “History,” “Biography,” “Memoir or Autobiography,” “Poetry,” and “General Nonfiction.”

McClatchy Reports Final Results For The Third Quarter 2017

For the third quarter of 2017, the company reported non-cash after-tax charges of $252.5 million, leading to a quarterly net loss of $260.5 million, or $34.11 per share. The non-cash charges relate almost solely to a non-cash deferred tax asset valuation allowance. The third quarter 2017 adjusted net loss remains unchanged from the previously reported results at $5.9 million. The net loss for the first nine months of 2017 was $393.5 million, or $51.67 per share, and included the effect of $359.4 million non-cash after-tax charges inclusive of the write-down of its CareerBuilder investment, mastheads, inventory, and the deferred tax asset valuation allowance mentioned above. Print Units Have Another Big Sales Week (publishersweekly.com)

For the week ended February 13, 2021, unit sales of print books increased 21.3% over the week ended February 15, 2020, at outlets that report to NPD BookScan. It was the second consecutive week that unit sales rose by more than 20% over the comparable week last year. The increase was accomplished without the benefit of a big new hit, and once again reflected strength across all major categories as well as big gains for backlist titles. Through February 13, backlist sales were up 32% over the same period in 2020, while frontlist sales rose 3.4%. Total print unit sales through February 13, 2021, were up 22% over the comparable period in 2020.
