Graphic Packaging Awarded Sustainability Packaging Supplier of the Year

Graphic Packaging International was recognized with a North America Award for Sustainability at the Kellogg Company’s Supplier Recognition Event held in June 2016 in Battle Creek, MI. This inaugural award recognizes suppliers that have demonstrated excellence in corporate responsibility.

Graphic Packaging received the award for their key understanding and support of a Kellogg Company core objective, which is to provide consumers with more sustainable products and easily recyclable product packaging. Recyclable paperboard packaging provides the content and graphics space the Kellogg’s branding team needs in their communication of important sustainability stories to the consumer.

Graphic Packaging is working with multiple teams at Kellogg to offer sustainable paperboard packaging solutions that will resonate with consumers yet protect the product inside. Recycled paperboard is made from paper fibers reclaimed during the recycling process. Virgin paperboard is made from fibers which are sustainably and ethically harvested from pine trees, which are re-planted and are a renewable natural resource. Both recycled and virgin paperboards are used in the packaging solutions that Graphic Packaging provides to customers. Paperboard is the sole material used to manufacture folding cartons like the ones used by Kellogg for Kashi products and the cartons Graphic Packaging produces for other customers from a range of industries.

The new standard is aligned with the science of the Paris Climate Change Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to 1.5C. During COP26 in Glasgow last year, a new standard for net-zero was introduced – prior to this there was no agreed standard. Many companies planned to achieve net-zero through ‘carbon offsets’, which are credits generated by projects reducing carbon emissions elsewhere. However, many existing carbon offsets are of inadequate quality and hard to verify, with some even increasing global emissions. The new net-zero standard allows less room for companies to cut corners – HH Global plans to lead by example.

International Paper And World Wildlife Fund Collaborate To Develop Science-Based Targets For Forests And Advance Forest Restoration In Brazil

How much forest land—and what quality—is needed to ensure forests can continue to provide people, plants and animals worldwide with clean air and water, food and the goods and services they need to thrive? Through a new collaboration between World Wildlife Fund and International Paper, research will be undertaken to help answer the question of the quantity and quality of forestland needed for the planet to thrive. The outputs of this work will be used to help create the world's first regional and global science-based targets for forests, as well as the first comprehensive set of guidance on actions that can be taken to sustain the world's forests. Such 'forest positive' actions include investing in responsible forest management, supporting forest conservation, restoring forestland, and raising awareness about the importance of forests with consumers.
