The Kansas City Star to move from downtown building, shift printing operations (kansascity.com)

Atlas Holdings announced that it has completed its acquisition of substantially all of the assets of LSC Communications, Inc. The transaction concludes a court-supervised sale process, pursuant to Section 363 of the U.S. Bankruptcy code. LSC is the largest producer of books in the United States and a leading manufacturer and distributor of magazines, catalogs and office products. With more than 14,000 dedicated associates across more than 50 facilities, the company is organized around four business segments, Magazine, Catalog & Logistics, Books, TOPS Products and its Mexico Print operations, which collectively service the traditional and digital print, printrelated services and office products markets. LSC begins its new chapter with a strong balance sheet, an optimized manufacturing footprint and a more competitive cost structure. As a leaner and more efficient organization, LSC is positioned to continue investing in innovation and sustainable growth with the support of Atlas’ financial strength and sector knowledge.

One of the great things about my job is I get to spend time talking to people with strong insight about the printing industry. And from a couple of recent exchanges with a couple of the PRINTING United Alliance’s subject matter experts, I’ve concluded that printing is a better industry to work for than it previously has been. Inherently Safer - A couple of months ago, I spoke with Gary Jones, the Alliance’s vice president, environmental, health, and safety affairs. In that discussion, Gary outlined some of the ways printing businesses often fall short of OSHA requirements, and how they can take steps to do what’s required and provide a safe workplace for their employees. More Attractive - Within a soon-to-be released article in Printing Impressions by Adriane Harrison, the Alliance’s vice president of human relations consulting, she says the generation of workers just now coming into our workforce – those known as Gen Z – are most interested in working for employers that care about their physical and mental well-being. This is according to a 2020 Gallup survey.

The 2020 Gold Ink Awards recently took place, with winners being announced earlier this month. We are pleased to announce that Arandell was the recipient of eight awards this year, including the Silver award for our work on the Gudrun Sjoden Spring 2020 catalog. Arandell participates in several print industry competitions each year, including the Graphics Excellence Awards, the Premier Print Awards and of course, the Gold Ink Awards. Along with it being the last competition of the year, the Gold Ink Awards competition is also the most prestigious, as it is put on by Printing Impressions – the print industry’s most well-recognized and influential industry publication.
