Klabin reaches Adjusted EBITDA of R＄ 1.942 billion in the first quarter of 2023

Klabin, the largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable paper packaging solutions in Brazil, recorded, in the first quarter of 2023, Adjusted EBITDA (Earnings before Interest, Taxes, Fees , Depreciation and Amortization) of R＄ 1.942 billion, up 13% over the same period of the previous year.

In the first three months of the year, the Company’s sales volume, excluding wood, totaled 881 thousand tons. The flexibility of Klabin’s integrated business model benefited the conversion of paper into packaging, minimizing the Company’s exposure to the Kraftliner foreign market. As a result, Net Revenue reached R＄ 4.831 billion in 1Q23, growth of 9% compared to 1Q22, a result that also reflects the price adjustments carried out over the last few months.

The ROIC (Return on Invested Capital) reached 19.4% in the period, demonstrating the Company’s ability to combine growth with the generation of value for shareholders. The solid results reinforce, once again, the success of Klabin’s integrated, diversified and flexible business model and its constant search for operational efficiency.

Stora Enso introduces world’s first sustainable RFID tag for microwave-safe use

Stora Enso Intelligent Packaging is expanding the selection of the sustainable ECO RFID –product family with a tag collection that is specifically designed for food & beverage items. Part of the new ECO RFID Food & Beverage Collection by Stora Enso is the world’s first paper tag for microwave-safe use, ECO Meal. RFID technology is used in the food industry to automate processes, provide real-time ‘track and trace’ –functionalities, and support next-generation unmanned retail. The new ECO Meal RFID tag by Stora Enso is specially designed for item-level tagging and tracking of ready-made meals. It is the first paper-based RFID tag on the market for this specific use case. Unlike traditional RFID tags, ECO Meal labels do not need to be removed from the food package prior to microwave heating, and the tags can be recycled in paper recycling.*

IPG’s Danville Manufacturing Plant Awarded TRUE Zero Waste Certification by Green Business Certification Inc.

IPG (Intertape Polymer Group) announced that its Danville, VA manufacturing plant, which produces carton sealing tape, stretch film, air pillows, and polyethylene (PE) tape, was awarded TRUE Zero Waste Certification under the TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) rating system. Administered by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), TRUE helps facilities measure, improve, and recognize zero waste performance by encouraging the adoption of sustainable waste management and reduction practices, which contribute to positive environmental, health and economic outcomes. The Danville, VA facility is the first IPG manufacturing plant to obtain this certification. The IPG Danville team has implemented numerous recycling initiatives over the years and now has a diversion rate of 97.5%. In 2023, the plant diverted over 16 million pounds of material from the landfill, mostly through recycling efforts. By implementing the TRUE Zero Waste program, the plant has enhanced its already robust culture of zero waste.
