Amcor announces expansion of thermoforming production capacity to support healthcare customer growth in North America

Amcor announced a further increase in its sustainability efforts by committing to science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. This commitment has been recognized by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and builds on the success of Amcor’s EnviroAction program. Since the program started in 2008, Amcor has already reduced GHG emissions intensity by 35% and is on track to deliver a cumulative 60% reduction by 2030. “For more than a decade, Amcor has been successfully reducing the footprint of its carbon and other GHG emissions,” said David Clark, Vice President of Sustainability at Amcor. “We are excited to step up those ambitions by committing to science-based targets as we continue our journey to net zero emissions.”

Multi-Color Corporation completed its acquisition of the Labels Division of Constantia Flexibles from Constantia Flexibles GmbH in a cash and equity transaction valued at approximately $1.3 billion (€1.15 billion). The combined annual revenues of the two businesses will be approximately $1.7 billion. The combination brings together Constantia Labels' high performing Food and Beverage business with Multi-Color's strong Home and Personal Care and Wine and Spirits platforms, as well as its emerging global position in Healthcare. The acquisition will provide additional growth opportunities for Multi-Color in Home and Personal Care through Constantia Labels' European operational footprint and assets, and for Constantia Labels in Food and Beverage through Multi-Color's US operational footprint and assets. The stronger combined footprint in Asia will provide further revenue opportunities. We are delighted to welcome Constantia's 2,800 associates to the Multi-Color team, as well as Mike Henry, current Executive Vice President and Head of Constantia Labels, who today becomes CEO-elect of Multi-Color and will be appointed Chief Executive Officer in January 2018.

UPM Raflatac has released the findings of a new neuromarketing study. Results show the power of different label materials and finishes to shape consumer perceptions and drive purchasing. Focused on white wine labels, the research carried out in collaboration with partners in the packaging value chain, ARGEA, SenseCatch, Kurz, and Krämer Druck, shows that label material and finishes all have a significant part to play in consumer purchasing behavior and post-purchase enjoyment. The research has been summarized in a book, which also features a foreword by Uwe Melichari, a sustainable packaging expert, designer, and Pentawards jury member. The book is available in three languages and as a digital version. A wine’s label plays a pivotal role in the consumer’s decision to buy it or not. In fact, according to a study on the wine sector conducted by wine.net, it was found that 82% of a sample of 2000 consumers relied primarily on the label to choose their favorite wine. Many other studies have also commented on the link between the perceived taste of wine and expectations, and how these are influenced by the label’s color, shape, paper, printing technique, and overall design.
