Amcor reveals Lift-Off seed capital winners with investments that seek to “drive the revolution in packaging”

Amcor (NYSE: AMCR, ASX: AMC), a global leader in developing and producing responsible packaging solutions, has announced the first batch of recipients for its ground-breaking Amcor Lift-Off seed funding initiative. Launched in April, Amcor Lift-Off targets breakthrough, state-of-the-art technologies that will further advance Amcor’s initiatives to make the future of packaging more sustainable.

Following multiple pitch rounds, the winners of the initial Lift-Off program are:
• Bloom Biorenewables Ltd: A chemical and biomaterials company, which converts plant waste into chemicals used in packaging; and
• Nfinite Nanotechnology: An advanced materials company, which leverages smart nanocoatings to make packaging recyclable and compostable.

Each company will receive investments of US $250,000 and access to Amcor’s best-in-class research and development resources.

€40 million investment in state-of-the-art technology as part of Smurfit Kappa’s expansion in Poland

The expansion makes the plant Smurfit Kappa’s largest in Poland and one of the most high-tech and modern packaging plants in Europe. In addition to the state-of-the-art machinery installed at the plant, it is expected that a further 50 new jobs will be created, bringing employment to more than 250 staff at the location. These new jobs will enable the plant to further serve its customer portfolio that includes some of the leading brands in the FMCG food and beverage sectors and serves both international and local customers. The investment in Poland includes the installation of a new high-tech corrugator and a range of ultra-modern converting machinery. The plant was also equipped with a new finished goods warehouse, which can accommodate upwards of 12,000 pallets. The investment will ultimately double the output from the plant which now spans 37,500 m2.

Mondi Consumer Flexibles to expand printing capacity and portfolio offering in Russia

Mondi, a global leader in packaging and paper, is investing in its flexible packaging plants, in Aramil and Pereslavl in Russia, to provide customers with improved flexibility and a broader portfolio, including sustainable packaging solutions. To meet rising demand in Russia for sustainable packaging for the confectionary, food and dry and wet pet food markets, Mondi will broaden the range of competitive packaging solutions. The plant in Aramil will also install a nine-layer co-extrusion line to produce high-barrier films by the end of 2020. This updated product portfolio will offer a range from mono-materials to multi-layer high-barrier laminates, many of which already meet current sustainability criteria, such as recyclability.
