American Forest & Paper Association Releases May 2021 Packaging Papers Monthly Report

Klabin, the largest producer and exporter of paper for packaging and sustainable solutions in paper packaging in Brazil, made official, this Wednesday (22), the start of operations at the Klabin Port Terminal (PAR-01), located on the wharf commercial center at the Port of Paranaguá, in Paraná. With the capacity to receive one million tons of pulp and paper per year, the Terminal is part of the investment package in logistics made by the Company in the State in recent years. With the operation, the unloading of short and long fiber pulp, fluff pulp and paper, from the Puma Units, located in Ortigueira (PR), and from the Monte Alegre Unit, in Telêmaco Borba (PR), can be carried out within the Port of Paranaguá. With a structure that covers an area of ​​27,530 m², leased by Klabin for 25 years, in an auction held in August 2019, the new operation also brings productivity and competitiveness to Klabin in Break Bulk, a mode of maritime cargo transport without the use of of containers, which ships large volumes directly inside the ships, allowing customers to be served on a large scale and with operational excellence.

Total Packaging Papers & Specialty Packaging shipments in December increased eight percent compared to December 2019. They were up five percent when compared to the same 12 months of 2019. The operating rate was 83.3 percent, up 0.6 points from December 2019 and essentially flat (-0.2 pts.) year-to-date. Mill inventories at the end of December increased 2,000 short tons from the previous month and were up 3,000 short tons compared to December 2019.

International Paper celebrated the opening of its newest state-of-the-art corrugated packaging facility in Atglen, PA. The new $100 million facility is providing more than 100 manufacturing jobs to Atglen and the surrounding communities. The new facility will produce corrugated packaging for produce, processed food, beverage, shipping, distribution and e-commerce customers. "Our corrugated packaging business is an important part of International Paper. This strategic investment will add local jobs and help us better serve our customers," said Tom Hamic, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, International Paper.
