Domtar Joins Allies in Postal Service Advocacy Efforts, Recognition

Domtar joined industry allies in the nonprofit groups Envelope Manufacturers Association (EMA) and Keep US Posted in continuing their postal service advocacy in March, with visits to key members of Congress.

While in Washington, our representatives pressed for sensible postal rate regulations, honored postal champions and called attention to a concerning new study regarding the U.S. Postal Service’s finances.

Tina Howard, Domtar’s vice president of converting sales and a member of the EMA board, joined other women leaders for a Women’s Hill Day.

Recognizing both International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, the EMA gathered women leaders in our industry to meet with congressional offices about postal rate hikes and service concerns. Howard joined EMA Public Policy and Postal Committee Members Lisa Kline of Double Envelope Company and Laura Pickard of Sylvamo. The group met with 12 congressional offices in the House and Senate, with leaders and staff from Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Virginia, Maryland, Indiana and Florida.

Mondi Syktyvkar commissions a new crude tall oil plant

Mondi has commissioned a crude tall oil plant (CTO-plant) at its Syktyvkar pulp and paper mill. The new equipment allows processing of all sulphate soap generated as a by-product of the pulp production process in the mill. As a result of this investment, the mill will be able to produce up to around 40,000 tonnes of crude tall oil annually. The new CTO-plant produces softwood and hardwood tall oil obtained through sulphuric acid treatment of sulphate soap which is a by-product of the pulp cooking process. Softwood tall oil is used at Mondi Syktyvkar to mitigate pitch deposits at the digesters, while hardwood tall oil is sold to external companies dealing in petrochemical, road construction, paint and coating. In recent years, tall oil has been intensively used for biodiesel fuel production primarily in Scandinavian countries.

Michael Grech succeeded Thomas Komin on March 1, 2022 and is thus the new Head of Sales SC Paper for the global sales of supercalendered papers of the "Grapho" brand at Laakirchen Papier. In his function, Michael Grech is the first point of contact for SC customers.

Sappi North America Launches Groundbreaking Retrospective Collection, The Reflected Works, at HOW Design Live

Sappi North America announced a new addition to The Reflected Works, an educational collection showcasing the creative marketing campaigns of S.D. Warren Company, which Sappi Limited acquired in 1994. The collection originally consisted of three printed booklets and online archives, each showcasing a different area of marketing expertise, and was recently expanded to include additional work from notable designer W.A. Dwiggins. The collection demonstrates Sappi's creative leadership since 1854 as the S.D. Warren Company. Featuring various S.D. Warren advertisements, educational pieces and promotions from 1910 – 1969, the series provides a comprehensive look at how the industry has changed over the past century, as well as how it has stayed the same.
