HMH President & CEO Jack Lynch Recognized as 2023 EdTech Company CEO of the Year in 2023

Learning technology company HMH today announced that HMH President & CEO, Jack Lynch, has been named “EdTech Company CEO of the Year” in the 5th annual EdTech Breakthrough Awards program conducted by EdTech Breakthrough, a leading market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies and solutions in the global edtech market.

Under Lynch’s leadership, HMH has undergone a strategic transformation to a digital-first, connected learning company that engages learners, empowers educators and improves student outcomes. In less than six years, he has executed on key changes that have set HMH up for success as a K-12 technology company, from the divestiture of its Books and Media division in 2021, to HMH’s sale to Veritas Capital in 2022, which puts the organization in an even stronger position to increase its positive impact on millions of students and teachers. Supporting this goal, most recently Lynch led HMH’s acquisition of assessment and research organization NWEA, bringing the potential to further transform the K-12 education experience for teachers and students.

With more than 25 years of experience in the edtech space, Lynch has been active in the K–12 education industry since 1999 and was the founding CEO of startup bigchalk.com and later President and CEO of the Pearson Technology Group and Renaissance Learning.

Bertelsmann Keeps Group Profit Near-Stable in First Half of 2020

During the reporting period, Bertelsmann’s Group revenues declined by 8.9 percent to €7.8 billion (H1 2019: €8.6 billion). The organic decline in revenues was 7.9 percent. The Group’s growth businesses were stable at €2.9 billion. They now account for 37 percent of total revenues, after 35 percent in the previous year. BMG, Majorel, Arvato Supply Chain Solutions, Arvato Financial Solutions, and the Bertelsmann Education Group, developed positively. Operating EBITDA was €1.01 billion (H1 2019: €1.29 billion). The RTL Group and Gruner + Jahr divisions in particular felt the effects of the corona-related decline in the advertising markets. In contrast, the Arvato services businesses increased their operating earnings. BMG and the Bertelsmann Education Group posted operating EBITDA at the previous year’s level. Group profit remained stable overall at €488 million (H1 2019: €502 million).

Mailers got virtually nothing out of the $10B granted by Congress to the USPS as part of the CARES Act. It went to the USPS’s cash position. The PRC’s November 2020 review formula did not consider the Covid-fueled boom in parcel volume for the Postal Service. Also, the PRC’s density formula treated the density change as a volume change to all delivery points, and thus neglected the profitability of the new delivery points and the volume they bring. Instead, the PRC review allowed for the USPS to break the CPI cap and begin instituting two rate hikes per year. This needs to be curtailed and you can help. Gap Inc. Reports Third Quarter Fiscal 2022 Results

*Net sales of $4.04 billion, up 2% compared to last year. Comparable sales were up 1% year-over-year. -Online sales increased 5% compared to last year and represented 39% of total net sales. -Store sales increased 1% compared to last year. The company ended the quarter with 3,380 store locations in over 40 countries, of which 2,743 were company operated. *Reported gross margin was 37.4%; adjusted gross margin, excluding $53 million in impairment charges related to Yeezy Gap, was 38.7%, deleveraging 320 basis points versus last year. *Reported operating income was $186 million; reported operating margin of 4.6%. *Reported net income of $282 million.
