Klabin showcases sustainable packaging solutions at Expocitros

The company is showcasing its recyclable corrugated board packaging solutions for the agricultural produce segment

Klabin is one of the exhibitors at the 44th Expocitros and the 40th Citriculture Week, organized simultaneously by the Sylvio Moreira Citriculture Center until June 8, in Cordeirópolis in the interior region of São Paulo. The company is showcasing its recyclable corrugated board packaging solutions for the agricultural produce segment, especially citrus fruits.

Visitors can learn about and explore the characteristics of Klabin’s packaging solutions, which are tailor-made to the specifications of diverse products in this market. The Company’s corrugated board boxes come in specific formats to accommodate and pack fruits, vegetables, greens and other food products, thus guaranteeing resistance, food protection, as well as ease of storage and transportation. Moreover, the packaging is recyclable and produced from raw material obtained from planted and certified forests.

Klabin’s participation in the event underscores its position as a supplier of sustainable packaging for the agricultural produce segment, which is an important market for the company, since Brazil is the world’s third largest fruit producer, exporting 748,000 tons in 2017, which corresponds to 2.5% of its production, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.

Iceland freezes use of unnecessary plastic with launch of paper packaging from Mondi

Mondi has teamed up with the UK’s number 1 frozen food retailer to provide renewable, recyclable packaging in a move that further validates Mondi’s approach of using “paper where possible, plastic when useful”. Iceland is replacing its previous packaging with Mondi’s versatile functional barrier paper across a number of its ranges. The first newly packaged product to hit the shelves earlier this month was the retailer’s frozen chicken dippers, which reduces the amount of plastic used per year by 80%. The functional barrier paper is made from renewable resources with Mondi managing the paper production and coating in-house, providing a fully integrated solution. It is easy for consumers to recycle the paper in existing waste streams and as paper is the most widely recycled material in the world - 74% of paper and 83% of paper-based packaging in Europe are recycled – the solution ensures that the paper can be recycled at the end of its life, contributing to a circular economy.

Graphic Packaging to Close Santa Clara, California Paperboard Mill by Year End

Graphic Packaging Holding Company (NYSE: GPK), today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Graphic Packaging International, Inc., will close its coated recycled paperboard mill in Santa Clara, California by year end. This decision was made as a result of a thorough assessment of the facility's manufacturing capabilities and associated costs in the context of the Company's overall mill operating capability. The closure will affect approximately 120 employees.
