Kruger completes acquisition of Kamloops Pulp Mill

Kruger is pleased to announce that its affiliate Kruger Specialty Papers Holding L.P. today completed the acquisition of Domtar’s pulp mill in Kamloops, British Columbia.

The Kamloops facility, which manufactures northern bleached softwood kraft pulp (NBSK) and unbleached softwood kraft pulp, will continue to operate as usual, honouring all existing volume commitments and agreements with customers and suppliers. The Mill’s 320 jobs will be maintained. In addition, Kruger intends to maintain ongoing initiatives to continue modernizing the Mill.

This acquisition will also enable Kruger to secure the supply of high-quality pulp for some of its paper mills, including those in Quebec, where the Company is investing about $1 billion for the construction of two state-of-the-art tissue plants.

The Company also recognizes the important role that the Kamloops Mill plays in the Thompson/Okanagan region and will work closely with local sawmills and wood fibre suppliers to strengthen relationships with these key partners.

Mondi has started up new production lines for melt-blown nonwoven fabric and medical face masks at its site in Gronau, Germany to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Mondi Gronau has over 50 years of experience in the production and processing of films, nonwovens and elastic components for hygiene products. Last year Mondi announced it would start up production lines to produce both the important base material, melt-blown nonwoven fabric, as well as the medical face mask themselves. With the new lines, Mondi is building up a local value chain in Germany to address the needs of the pandemic. The fully integrated production with two highly automated high-speed machines allows the output of 700 high-quality medical face masks per minute. This is approximately seven times higher than the standard face mask production line and will produce at least one million medical grade masks a day. The masks are certified as a medical product by the German Johner Institute as well as meeting the German standards OEKO-TEX and Dermatest.

Solenis to Increase Prices on various Product Lines across the Asia Pacific region

Solenis, a leading global producer of specialty chemicals, will increase prices on various product lines of pulp & paper and water treatment chemicals across the Asia Pacific region. The increase will be up to 35 percent, and will be effective from April 1, 2022, or as customer contracts allow. As a consequence of continued and sustained cost increases in raw materials, energy and transportation, further price increases will be initiated for the selected products lines. The increase is necessary due to the significant impact on key feedstocks across the product range.
