Lecta: efficient, responsible water management as a priority

At Koehler, sustainable management, thinking and acting is part of the corporate strategy. This also includes taking care of the immediate surroundings of the individual plants and assuming responsibility. This includes sponsoring streams, building nesting boxes or maintaining orchard meadows. Or even a tree planting campaign, as has now taken place in Greiz. "As one of the largest employers in Greiz, we have a responsibility to the town and the people", says Udo Hollbach, Managing Director of Koehler Greiz GmbH & Co. KG. The idea of the tree planting campaign, which has now been put into practice, was born in discussions with the town council. "With this, we are not only doing something for the environment, but also promoting company health management".

During the first six months of 2023, 21 additional companies representing approximately 90 million customers have removed greenwashing messages such as “Go green, Go paperless” and “Go paperless to help protect the environment” from their marketing communications. “In addition to misleading consumers, these types of unsubstantiated environmental claims pose a serious threat to the economic security of the more than 7 million people whose livelihoods depend on a healthy North American paper, printing and mailing sector,” says Two Sides North America President Kathi Rowzie. “Our recent research found that 65% of consumers who’ve seen anti-paper greenwashing are influenced to go paperless.” That same research found that the Two Sides Anti-greenwashing Campaign has preserved more than $300 million in annual revenue for the paper, printing and mailing sector over the last decade.

As of May, UPM’s new wood-based BioVerno diesel fuel will be available at ABC service stations. The product, sold as a part of ABC’s Smart Diesel range, is a result of UPM’s own innovation and is produced at the UPM Lappeenranta Biorefinery. This high quality fuel suits all diesel engines. ABC’s Smart Diesel already boasts excellent properties, and now it has become even more environmentally sound with a locally produced diesel by its side. Renewable UPM BioVerno diesel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% when compared to traditional diesel. UPM BioVerno is produced at the UPM Lappeenranta Biorefinery from crude tall oil, a residue of the pulp production process. This biorefinery is the first of its kind in the world. A significant proportion of the raw material for the diesel comes from UPM’s Finnish pulp mills.
