New!! NEUJET®silk 44 lb (65GSM)

We are excited to announce that Mondi has just added a new special paper to its NEUJET family of papers. This is the 65gsm 44# NEUJET® silk.

This paper grade was specifically developed for the book publishing industry, with a very high PPI – 847, brightness – 99, Opacity – 90, and Caliper – 2.36 Pt.

Mondi’s complete Neujet family includes the Neujet Silk premium, NEUJET Matte, NEUJET® silk & NEUJET® matte premium, with weights ranging from 65gsm (44#) through 7Pt, 9Pt, and 11Pt. 300gsm (111#Cover).

The NEUJET® silk premium & NEUJET® matte premium lines also incorporate the HP ColorPRO technology.

We are offering midrange fully treated paper lines of DNS CF (coated feel) & DNS® NF (Natural Feel). The DNS® CF (coated feel) line offers calendarized papers with a very smooth finish – thus “coated feel”. Weights offered here range from 70gsm (47#) up to 160gsm (60#Cover).

More News – Our DNS® NF (natural feel) line was recently expanded to include a very light but high bulk 9Pt: 190gsm (70#Cover) DNS NF, which is one of the lightest 9Pt. available.

The lowest-weight paper in this line is 60gsm (40#).

Our entry-level paper is the DNS® premium, a partly treated hybrid paper that works well on both offset and high-speed inkjet. This paper grade gives a very good quality on Canon ProStream, all at a lower cost.

Also relatively new is our IQ Extralight line with weights ranging from 40gsm (27#) to 60gsm (40#). These papers are used mainly in the pharmaceutical and electronics industries for printing inserts that are placed into their product packaging.

Important to note that most of the papers above are offered in both rolls and cut-sheet.

Metsä Group and ANDRITZ to construct a demo plant for developing new lignin products

Metsä Group will construct a demo plant for lignin refining in connection with its Äänekoski bioproduct mill. The equipment will be supplied by technology group ANDRITZ. Construction will begin in Summer 2024, and the demo plant will be completed in late 2025. The plant’s daily capacity will be two tonnes of the lignin product. Lignin is a substance in wood that binds wood fibres together. In pulp production, lignin is separated from the fibres into black liquor in the chemical cycle and used as bioenergy. Lignin could also be used in chemical and material applications. Metsä Group and ANDRITZ will focus on developing the production process of the new lignin product and its integration with the bioproduct mill, as well as the product properties suitable for various end uses.

Neenah Reports Second Quarter 2021 Results Led by Organic Sales Growth and Accretive Acquisition

Consolidated net sales of $269.3 million in the second quarter of 2021 increased 67 percent compared with $161.4 million in the second quarter of 2020. The increase includes strong volume growth in both segments, including net sales from the Itasa acquisition of $33.2 million. The impact from lower net selling prices was mostly offset by favorable currency effects. Excluding the Itasa acquisition, net sales grew 4% from the first quarter of 2021. Operating loss of $32.6 million in the second quarter of 2021 decreased compared to operating loss of $58.5 million in 2020. The operating loss of $32.6 million in 2021 resulted primarily from non-routine charges of $51.9 million, including asset restructuring costs resulting from the Appleton Mill closure, loss on debt extinguishment, acquisition and integration costs, pension settlement losses and other restructuring items as detailed in the GAAP reconciliation table.
