L Brands, Inc. reported net sales increased 7 percent to $1.020 billion for the five weeks ended April 7, 2018, compared to net sales of $951.4 million for the five weeks ended April 1, 2017. Comparable sales for the five weeks ended April 7, 2018, increased 4 percent compared to the five-week period ended April 8, 2017. On September 2, 2002 publishers filed the latest brief in the copyright infringement lawsuit against Internet Archive (“IA”), first filed on June 1, 2020 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. The brief follows publishers’ July 7, 2022 request for summary judgement against the Internet Archive, which explained that both the law and facts of the case indisputably point to infringement and do not require a trial. The most recent filing comprehensively negates the Internet Archive’s own motion for summary judgement, which publishers believe is meritless and misleading. The plaintiffs — Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins Publishers, Penguin Random House, and Wiley — brought the lawsuit on behalf of themselves and their authors after the Internet Archive refused to halt its infringement of tens of thousands of their books.

Publishers’ revenue increased by $143.2 million (+6.2%) for the first quarter of 2018 (Jan - March) compared to the same period in 2017. These numbers include sales for all tracked categories (Trade - fiction/non-fiction/religious, PreK-12 Instructional Materials, Higher Education Course Materials, Professional Publishing, and University Presses). The increases are attributed primarily to strong growth in trade (consumer) books in January and February.
