Paper and Power: E.ON awarded on-site generation contract for DS Smith

Twenty years after FSC certification of the first forest management unit in Romania, the country now has national representation by FSC International. To celebrate this, all interested parties met on 31 October 2023 near Brasov, in the central part of the country and close to nature – a reminder that forests and their values is what brings us all together. Romania is well known for its extensive forest cover and well-connected forest landscapes, where no patch is more than 1 km from an adjacent forest (Stancioiu et al., 2018). The Carpathian mountains in Romania still harbour large tracts of pristine and biodiverse forests, which boast thriving populations of wildlife in healthy ecosystems. In addition, large local communities have lived in these forests for centuries. Local people consider the forests part of their cultural identity, and their life is closely linked to locally-grown wood – from timber for their houses to raw materials for daily life to the use of large amounts of firewood.

Our managed forests and the wood products from them already constitute a carbon sink in Canada, and we can continue to reduce emissions and store more carbon for longer in the coming years. Forests are complex ecosystems and they need to be monitored and taken care of – even more so in a dynamic and changing environment."

Environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, environmental degradation, resource depletion, and packaging waste demand an urgent and coherent response from the packaging industry. The round top dot plate is processed with the nyloflex® Xpress Thermal Processor. A sustainable easy-to-use system of several components, to reliably deliver a complete solution for lightning-fast plate making and high-end flexo printing. The benefits of 30% less waste, up to 88% reduction in electricity, and a plate processing time of only 45 minutes, result especially in reduction of operating costs, improved productivity as well as excellent print quality.
