RYAM Announces Third Quarter 2022 Results

*Net sales for the third quarter of $466 million, up 25 percent from prior year quarter
*Income from continuing operations for the third quarter of $18 million
*Adjusted EBITDA from continuing operations of $68 million, up 106 percent from prior year quarter
*Higher prices across all segments partially offset by inflation on key input costs

Rayonier Advanced Materials Inc. (NYSE:RYAM) (the “Company”) reported net income of $30 million, or $0.45 per diluted share, for the quarter ended September 24, 2022, compared to a net loss of $5 million, or $(0.07) per diluted share, for the same prior year quarter. Income from continuing operations for the quarter ended September 24, 2022 was $18 million, or $0.28 per diluted share, compared to a loss from continuing operations of $13 million, or $(0.21) per diluted share, for the same prior year quarter. The Company sold its lumber and newsprint assets in the third quarter of 2021 and presents the results of those operations as discontinued operations. “The quarter’s improved financial results are evidence of the significant earnings power of RYAM. Increased productivity in the third quarter led to higher sales volumes in High Purity Cellulose and stronger financial results,” said De Lyle W. Bloomquist, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Though the global economy appears to be slowing, we remain optimistic about capturing additional productivity gains and value for our key products. As such, we are confident about our business and have increased our full year Adjusted EBITDA guidance to exceed $175 million for 2022. We also continue to reduce debt, including net repayments of $59 million year to date. As our credit metrics continue to improve, we are actively monitoring debt markets for an opportune time to refinance our 2024 debt maturities.”

American Forest & Paper Association Releases May 2020 Packaging Papers Monthly Report

Total packaging papers & specialty packaging shipments in May increased two percent compared to May 2019. They were up three percent when compared to the same five months of 2019. The operating rate was 83.8 percent, down 1.8 points from May 2019 and down 1.4 points year-to-date. Mill inventories at the end of May increased 18,000 short tons from the previous month and were up 18,000 short tons compared to May 2019.

Crown’s Sustainable Beverage Cans Help Convey Health and Freshness for New Mineral Water Line From Socorro Bebidas

Brazilian beverage producer Socorro Bebidas (Socorro) has expanded its partnership with Crown Embalagens Metálicas da Amazônia S.A., a subsidiary of Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK) (Crown) (www.crowncork.com), to launch Acquíssima Sabor flavored mineral water in 350ml (12oz) CrownSleek cans. The premium zero-calorie drink features natural aromas, offering a health-conscious alternative for consumers to stay hydrated and incorporate key nutrients into their daily diets. The line made its debut with two flavors, Lychee and Green Apple, and is currently available in Acquíssima stores, restaurants and supermarkets in Brazil. Socorro also previously utilized CrownSleek cans to package its Acquíssima mineral water brand, its first entry into the water market. Total canned water volume in Brazil has increased by nearly 7x between 2021 and 2022, demonstrating a growing trend in the region for water packaged in aluminum and a continued shift away from tap and bulk water. When considering the package format for the brand, Socorro knew it needed to help convey the refreshing and health-conscious nature of the beverage, while also delivering on sustainability. The inherent properties of metal packaging, including providing a powerful barrier against light and oxygen, helps maintain the product's freshness. Aluminum beverage cans are also infinitely recyclable and are the most recycled beverage package in the world. These characteristics resonate with Brazilian consumers, who have recently helped drive the country's recycling rate for aluminum beverage cans to an astounding 100%.
