Solar Will Be Everywhere, Danny Kennedy Will Declare at Penton’s “The California Renewables Rush” Conference in San Francisco

Danny Kennedy, managing director of the California Clean Energy Fund and co-founder of Sungevity, will explore the imminent explosive growth of solar when he headlines the April 6 “The California Renewables Rush” conference, hosted by Penton‘s The Energy Times.

As an internationally recognized clean-technology entrepreneur and environmental activist, Kennedy will reflect on the journey to push our economy towards renewables and what it will mean for those involved in the transformation.

In his 2012 book, “Rooftop Revolution: How Solar Power Can Save Our Economy-and Planet-From Dirty Energy,” Kennedy said: “I believe that everyone is going to go solar because it’s better—not just better for the pocketbook, not just better for the planet, not just better for jobs or the economy or security but because it’s the best idea ever—better than the wheel and the automobile and human flight and Google.”

“The idea is spreading that solar power is better than fire. It provides the services we get from fire without burning stuff first. This reality is catching on and will soon be ablaze. Indeed, I believe going solar is a shift in what it means to be human. It’s our next big step,” Kennedy argues.

paperChain assesses the use of industrial waste in several sectores

An industrial pavilion and a road section, both in the Aveiro region, are the first visible results at real scale of using waste generated in the pulp and paper industry in precast concrete structures and in bituminous mixtures for roads paving in Portugal. The challenge, which is both complex and ambitious, emerged as part of the paperChain European project and is already being put into practice in Ílhavo and Cacia: using waste from pulp production, such as lime ash, dregs and grits (granular waste) as secondary raw materials in the construction sector, integrating them in a circular economy logic. The paperChain project includes 20 partners from five EU countries committed to circularity boosting). In Portugal, the entities involved include the University of Aveiro, The Navigator Company, Spral, Megavia, RAIZ Research Institute and the Sustainable Habitat Cluster. Called "New niche markets for waste from the pulp and paper industry based on the circular economy", it is coordinated by the company Acciona Construction (Spain).
