Sun Chemical Performance Pigments Completes Phase 3 of REACH Registrations Ahead of Deadline

Sun Chemical Performance Pigments completed Phase 3 of the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) registration process ahead of the deadline, which was on May 31, 2018.

In completing Phase 3, Sun Chemical registered approximately 200 chemical substances with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). These registrations emcompass all chemical substances manufactured or imported by the Performance Pigments division in excess of 1000kg per year.

“After more than 10 years of extensive testing and risk evaluations, our broad portfolio of colorants and preparations have proven themselves safe for consumers and the environment,” said Gary Andrzejewski, Corporate Vice President Environmental Affairs. “Sun Chemical will continue to lead in product stewardship for the global pigments industry and institute processes to ensure compliance with future REACH requirements.”

REACH is a regulation of the European Union designed to improve the protection of human health and the environment to the risks posed by chemicals. The regulation also promotes alternative methods for risk assessment in an effort to mitigate tests on animals. Furthermore, it is intended to enhance the competitiveness of the chemical industry in the European Union.
