UPM’s recyclable label papers are now certified as industrially and home compostable

Two Sides are pleased to announce the release of their tenth edition of the hugely popular Myths & Facts booklet. The A5 booklet has had a redesign and is filled with up to dates facts and figures regarding the print and paper industry. The Myths & Facts booklet has always been a popular resource for Two Sides members helping to dispel the common misconceptions surrounding the industry making it a great tool for promoting the great environmental story print and paper has to tell. The myths covered include: •European forests are shrinking •Paper is a wasteful product •Paper is bad for the environment •Only recycled paper should be used •Paper production is a major cause of global greenhouse gas emissions •Paper production consumes an excessive amount of water •Electronic communication is better for the environment than paper-based communication •Digital is the preferred means of communication.

Amcor Rigid Packaging has earned Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) 2023 Re | focus Leadership in Sustainability Innovation Award for its outstanding innovations in plastics manufacturing that further environmental advantages in design, material, and end-of-life management. ARP received the honor after earning the best overall score for its innovations. “This award further demonstrates ARP’s stewardship and commitment to developing cutting-edge innovations for sustainable plastic manufacturing that advances the circular economy,“ said Terry Patcheak, vice president R&D, sustainability and program management at ARP. "Our innovations are all examples of how we are providing our customers with sustainable plastic packaging solutions, and constantly innovating and improving to incorporate the latest advancements in technology and sustainability into our packaging.”

As part of its efforts to support global solutions to the climate crisis, Amazon announced the launch of the Agroforestry and Restoration Accelerator in partnership with The Nature Conservancy, a global environmental organization. The Accelerator will create a more sustainable source of income for thousands of local farmers in the Brazilian Amazonian state of Pará, while also restoring native rainforests and fighting climate change by naturally trapping and storing carbon. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, nature-based solutions have a critical role to play in avoiding the worst effects of climate change. Governments and the private sector can both reduce carbon emissions and remove carbon from the atmosphere by investing in nature-based solutions at scale. The Agroforestry and Restoration Accelerator is one such carbon removal project, and part of Amazon’s commitment to meeting The Climate Pledge, which the company co-founded with Global Optimism. Signatories to the Pledge commit to reaching net-zero carbon by 2040—10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement.
