Coalition for Paper Options Receives United Paper, Printing & Mailing Industry Support to Fight for Paper-Based Resources

The Coalition for Paper Options (CPO) – the only stand-alone coalition devoted exclusively to protecting citizen access to paper-based information – proudly welcomes its newest members: the Association for Print Technologies (formerly NPES) and the Idealliance. These new members have joined with Printing Industries of America, the American Forest & Paper Association, the Envelope Manufacturers Association and a host of individual corporations in the paper manufacturing, printing and mailing industries as financial supporters of the Coalition for Paper Options’ efforts to protect access to paper-based resources and information.

“By supporting the Coalition for Paper Options, the paper, printing and mailing industry is speaking out in a loud and unified voice against government efforts to limit access to important paper-based information,” said John Runyan, executive director of the Coalition for Paper Options. “Our coalition, however, is not just about industry, as evidenced by a wide range of consumer, senior, and rural groups which are also active members. We are all united in making sure that our nation embraces technology without penalizing citizens who still need or prefer traditional access to paper-based services offered by government and the private sector.”

In addition to its industry partners, the Coalition for Paper Options’ membership includes consumer advocacy groups such as the Coalition of Mutual Fund Investors, Consumer Action, the National Consumers League, the National Grange, the Senior Citizens League and more.

The Coalition for Paper Options’ federal policy agenda currently includes a range of issues from preserving shareholder access to paper mutual fund performance reports to restoring printed versions of important government documents such as Social Security statements and tax forms. Book Publisher Sales Declined in July 2017

After several months of increases, publishers’ revenues (sales to bookstores, wholesalers, direct to consumer, online retailers, etc.) declined by 11.7% in July 2017 compared to July 2016. Revenues for Jan. – July 2017 were relatively flat, up by 0.2%, according to the most recent StatShot data from the Association of American Publishers. Tracked categories include: Trade - fiction/non-fiction/religious, PreK-12 Instructional Materials, Higher Education Course Materials, Professional Publishing, and University Presses. Revenues for trade books (fiction/non-fiction/religious) declined in July, and were flat (down 0.3%) for the year-to-date, compared to the same periods in 2016. The only category to see growth in July 2017 was Religious Presses, which saw a 4.4% revenue increase in July 2017 compared to July 2016; despite that growth, the category remains down year to date. HH Global Acquires GBG Marketing Services Division

Outsourced marketing execution provider HH Global today announced it has signed an agreement to acquire the Marketing Services division of GBG. The agreement will further strengthen the interactive capabilities of HH Global, following the acquisition of Blueberry Wave in 2019.
