Join the Rainforest Alliance’s Follow the Frog Campaign

The Rainforest Alliance’s annual Follow the Frog campaign is underway and runs through September 24. The campaign encourages consumers to purchase goods that have been responsibly produced, as indicated by the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal.

When the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal appears on a package of paper, bag of coffee, box of bananas, bar of chocolate or dozens of other products, it assures consumers that the products sustainably grown and harvested. Products that are sourced from farms, fields and forestlands that meet the Rainforest Alliance’s standards for conserving wildlife, protecting natural habitats and improving the livelihoods of workers and local communities can use the seal.

For nearly two decades Domtar and the Rainforest Alliance have collaborated on multiple initiatives to promote sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation.

Our partnership began in 2000 when Domtar forestlands in New York’s Adirondack Mountains were awarded Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) certification by the Rainforest Alliance. Today, all of Domtar’s facilities are FSC-certified, and we have sold more than 5 million tons of FSC-certified products, all of which bear the globally recognized Rainforest Alliance Certified seal.

Domtar Recertifies Wabigoon Forest to New Canadian FSC Standard

Domtar recently received the new Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) recertification standard for the Canadian government lands that we manage in the Wabigoon forest. We successfully completed a surveillance audit on the Wabigoon Forest related to the new standards in July, and the auditor recommended that certification be maintained under the new Canadian FSC standard. “Our on-the-ground management practices, coupled with a rigorous provincially-mandated forest management planning process, help to hit the mark with FSC,” says Marie Cyr, general manager of the Dryden pulp mill. “We are proud of our record of sustainable forest management. The fact that the Dryden Mill has been operating in this forest area for over 100 years demonstrates that we are managing our forests sustainably.” The new Canadian FSC standard, which launched in June, replaces the previous National Boreal Standard and raises the bar for demonstrating sustainable forest management.

DS Smith achieves ‘Platinum’ EcoVadis rating

In our most recent EcoVadis sustainability assessment, we achieved ‘Platinum’ rating, which places us in the top 1% of companies assessed by EcoVadis globally . Notably, we scored 90% for our performance in sustainable procurement, with praise for our Supplier Engagement programme and FSC chain of custody certification, and 80% on environmental issues, with praise for “exceptional” reporting on environmental issues. We placed in the top 2% in our industry overall.
