Mondi’s entire portfolio of kraft papers for packaging certified compostable

The certification underpins Mondi’s MAP2030 (Mondi Action Plan 2030) sustainability commitment to make 100% of its packaging and paper products reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025, ensuring a sustainable end-of-life for all paper and packaging products. While recyclability remains Mondi’s focus to keep fibres in circulation, composting can be a viable end-of-life option for certain applications, such as those disposed in the biowaste stream.

Mondi’s kraft papers are made from renewable and certified sources, which can support customers to achieve their own sustainability targets. Customers can benefit from a comprehensive product range to meet requirements for industrial packaging, shopping bags for retailers and attractive food packaging for supermarket shelves.

An example of Mondi’s compostable kraft papers is Advantage MF EcoComp, which is specifically designed for household and agricultural use and is used for paper bags for wet organic household waste. Another example is Mondi’s EcoVantage kraft paper, which combines fresh and recycled fibres for sustainable and food compliant shopping packaging.

Metsä Board achieves Platinum level sustainability rating from EcoVadis again

Metsä Board, the leading European producer of premium fresh fibre paperboards and part of Metsä Group, has, once again, achieved the highest Platinum level in EcoVadis’ sustainability assessment. The company has achieved the highest level or rating every year since 2017. Metsä Board received high scores in each of the four themes assessed, and with a total score of 87/100 is among the highest 1% of companies assessed in the category of paper, paperboard and packaging manufacturers. The overall score remained at the same high level as last year, even though the assessment included several new requirements this year. The 200-year-old US paper manufacturer’s Monadnock Envi PC 100 Coated Performance Board is a smooth, cool white grade that is FSC certified and made from 100% post-consumer waste recycled fibre. It is targeted at luxury packaging applications including cosmetics, fragrances, wine and spirits and high-end fashion and tech products. “The world’s leading brands have been clamouring for a sustainable, high-performing, and beautifully coated packaging material and that’s exactly what Envi PC 100 delivers,” said Julie Brannen, director, sustainability solutions at Monadnock.

PCA Roanoke Partners with Virginia Tech

On April 20 PCA’s sheet plant in Roanoke, Virginia, hosted 35 students from Virginia Tech’s packaging program for their annual Plant Tour and Social Day. Students toured the box plant, watched a presentation about PCA and enjoyed lunch with employees. In addition to the Plant Tour and Social Day, PCA Roanoke is proud to partner with Virginia Tech in a number of other ways. The plant has hired a number of interns from the Packaging School, some of which have gone on to become PCA employees after graduation.
